When we all arrived back home, everyone dispersed, heading off in different directions. I, still shaken from what had happened earlier, wandered into a secluded part of the cave a place that always managed to calm my nerves. I didn't realize that a pair of familiar golden eyes had been following my every move.

It wasn't until I caught the faint scent of someone nearby that I became aware of their presence. Turning around slowly, I asked in a barely audible voice, "What do you want, Neteyam?" My voice trembled as I faced him fully. His eyes softened with concern the moment he heard me speak but got back to hard.

I repeated my question, louder this time, trying to sound more confident, "What do you want, Neteyam?" My voice cracked, and I cringed inwardly, hating how weak I sounded.

Neteyam hesitated for a moment, his usually stern expression softening as he took a small step toward me, though he still kept some distance. "I'm just checking to see if you're alright," he said gently, his golden eyes locked onto mine.

I frowned, frustration bubbling up inside me. "Why do you care? You don't even like me, and I don't like you," I shot back, my voice rising slightly with irritation. Why did he care? Why was he always checking up on me when we were supposed to barely tolerate each other?

His expression shifted, his jaw tightening as he shook his head slowly, his long braids swaying with the motion. He let out a small sigh, clearly annoyed. "You know what? I shouldn't have bothered checking on you," he muttered, his tone sharper now.

We stood there for a moment, locked in a silent stare, tension thick in the air. Neither of us wanted to back down.

"Good," I snapped, crossing my arms defiantly.

Just then, we were interrupted by a distant voice calling out our names. "Neteyam! Y/N! Come quickly, you have to hear this!" It was Kiri, running toward her parents' tent without even checking to see if we were following.

Neteyam and I exchanged a glance, the moment between us still unresolved, but we both knew we couldn't ignore Kiri's urgency. Without another word, we followed her.

When we reached their hut, we saw Kiri, Lo'ak, and Tuk huddled together, quietly listening to their parents arguing. Tuk was peeking through the small opening of the tent, her wide eyes reflecting both curiosity and fear. When Kiri noticed us, she quickly motioned to her mouth, signaling for us to stay quiet and come listen.

I moved closer, settling next to Kiri and Lo'ak. Gently, I placed a hand on Kiri's shoulder, hoping to offer her some comfort. The tension in the air was thick, the weight of the argument inside heavy on all of us.

"You cannot. You cannot ask this!" Neytiri's voice rang out, filled with fury and pain. She hissed through her teeth, her anger palpable even from where we stood. "I cannot leave my people. I will not leave my people!"

Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. Leave? My eyes widened, and I turned to Kiri, my thoughts spiraling. No, please... Neytiri, change Jake's mind, I begged silently. I glanced at Lo'ak, his expression a mix of shock and sadness, and then at Tuk, whose tiny face mirrored his emotions.
