After getting Seb his promised cookie dough ice-cream we finally arrive back. Seb runs off to play in his room and have some of his screen time while I shower and wash my hair.

Once my hair was defused and my curls were defined I get ready for Clary's birthday outing. We were going to watch one of Simon's shows and then I was hoping to take Clary clubbing after as her first form of rebellion.

I do a brown smokey eye and winged liner with a muted red lip as my makeup before pulling on my chosen outfit.

I had picked out an emerald green halter neck dress that came halfway down my thighs. My heels matched the dress and had an ankle strap made from a string of pearls. The heels weren't that high, around 3 inches making me just under 6 feet. I pull on my favorite black leather jacket and make sure my blades and stele are tucked away correctly.

The dress showed off the silvery mark I had on my back. The colour resembled a scar but the shape was a set of wings. It had formed painlessly overnight when I was ten and had been there ever since. Mom and I had no idea what the mark was about. Mom had hinted a few times that she had an idea but wouldn't tell me unless she was sure. However she couldn't be sure without doing some research and we didn't have access to the books that would have the correct information. And there wasn't anyone I could ask without drawing suspicion or risking the wrong people finding out.

I check my reflection one last time. I had a few runes on my legs but I wasn't worried about Clary commenting on them since she thought these ones were tattoos. Along with the angelic rune I had on my chest

I grab my crossbody bag in the way out of my room. It wasn't big, just enough to hold my phone, keys, lip gloss and some money. I quickly pop into Seb's room and say my goodbyes along with reminding him to brush his teeth and shower after dinner.

"Let's get this show on the road" I say as I walk into the living room and see Simon there. I kiss mom on the cheek before doing the same to Luke.

"You're looking nice" I thank Luke for his compliment with a smirk knowing his over protective papa wolf instincts were telling him I needed to change. Luke Garrow, Lucien Greymark, was a cop for the NYPD and had been in our lives for as long as I could remember. He was also a Shadowhunter before he was turned into a werewolf.

He used to tuck me in at night and tell me stories about Idris. Even now he would do the same for seb. He was a good man and the closest I would have to a father figure.

"We should go." I say to Clary and Simon and they nod. Clary hands Simon a box of spray paint before jumping on his back. "Onward stead" I hear Clary say before the two disappear down the stairs.

Once they do I turn to the two other adults in the room. "Seb's in his room. He has 3 hours of screen time left. He had ice-cream so make sure he brushes his teeth and he still needs to have dinner. I want him in bed by 9 I need him up early tomorrow so I don't want him grumpy. Also keep your stele away from him. I don't need him runing himself again." I tell them in a rush before mom basically pushes me out of the loft with a laugh.

"Everything will be fine. Go enjoy yourself" she say and I finally leave yelling bye. This was the first time I was planning to spend the night out and not be home to tuck my son into bed so I was feeling a little nervous.

I also didn't want him runing himself again since he was seen as too young to have any yet. That didn't stop him from taking my stele and drawing the angelic rune on his hip while I was in the shower a few months ago. It could have killed him since I wasn't sure if he was going to be a mundane like his father. So you could only imagine how panicked I was when I saw the solid black mark on his skin. I t was him who calmed my down in the situation and told me he knew he was a Shadowhunter since a seraph blade would activate for him. He was still grounded for a month for almost killing himself and scaring me.

We all get into Simon's van since he wanted to drive us all to his gig and find Maureen already there. I smile at her before sitting next to her in the back. She waves and goes back to listen if to the track on her phone. Clearly nervous about the gig tonight. We had some time to kill so we go back outside and all sit on top of the van for a while.

My mom is so overprotective lately.
- [chuckles.]
- So, do you remember in Aliens, when the alien queen was defending her eggs from Ripley? In this scenario, is my mom Ripley or the alien queen? - Both.
- What? A mother defending her young.
Defending me from what? I spend all day in an art studio.
My life couldn't be more mundane.
Besides, I really don't know much about when she was young.
Oh, just do what I do and get all the dirt from your relatives.
[scoffs.]
Well, I would if I could, but she doesn't have any.
And my my dad died before I was born.
So, you have no one? No uncles, no aunts, no third cousins, twice removed? No, just me and my mom.
It's why the Lewis clan has added three chairs to every seder - since pre-school.
- Mmm.
One for Clary, one for Jocelyn, and one for Elijah.
- Of course.
Obviously.
- Yes, obviously.
You guys don't think that's a little bit suspicious? You not knowing anything about your family? Your mom could be hiding some deep, dark secret.
Maureen, it's not possible.
- No, no, think about it.
- No, seriously.
My mother is incapable of concealing anything from me.

It didn't take us long to get to Java Jones, a coffee shop, and Clary and I help them unload the van and set up.

When were done Clary and I sit together sharing a large piece of chocolate cake as we listen to them play.

Simon had improved his voice a lot, finding the right key to sing in that fit his voice the most so today's show was the best one yet. Not long after we help pack everything back into the van and Simon drives us to a spot outside a club so Clary could repaint the van with her new spray paints.
