As I made my way out of my room, still in that stunning blue saree, I could feel the weight of the day finally catching up to me. It had been a long, exciting party, and my feet were killing me, but I was still riding the high of being around Kunal. Kunal freaking Roy, the man of my dreams, Could life get any better?
I was about to change out of the saree and into something more comfortable, but something told me to check on Mom and Dad first. They’d been just as busy hosting the party, and I figured I should at least say goodnight.
As I headed downstairs, I heard voices coming from the living room. Weird, I thought. Wasn’t everyone supposed to have left? I poked my head around the corner and, lo and behold, there he was—Kunal, still here, sitting with my parents. I beamed at him, but true to form, his face was locked in that permanent scowl. Wow, this man really needs to learn how to smile.
“Dad?” I asked, walking into the room. “I thought the party was over?”
My father looked up at me with a small smile. “It is, beta. But Kunal will be staying here for the week. He has some work in Manali, and I didn’t want him staying at a hotel.”
What?! I felt like I was about to burst with excitement. He’s staying *here*? Like, under the same roof? For a whole week? My brain immediately went into overdrive, imagining all the scenarios where I could casually bump into him in the hallway or catch him having coffee in the morning, looking all broody and hot.
But before I could spiral into a full-blown daydream, Dad added, “Also, next week, when we head to New York, Kunal can take you with him. It’ll be more convenient.”
Oh. My. God. This was too good. I was practically jumping inside, but I somehow managed to keep my face from exploding into a giant grin. Okay, I didn’t really succeed because the smile on my face was probably giving me away. I mean, what more could a girl ask for?
Mom noticed my dazed look and called out, snapping me back to reality. “Shanaya, why don’t you show Kunal to his room? It’s just beside yours, so you can guide him.”
Wait, WHAT? Beside my room? Could this get any more perfect? I was literally over the moon, and the giant smile plastered on my face wasn’t helping me look any less obvious.
I turned to Kunal, who was still scowling—honestly, what’s new? “Well, come on then,” I said with a playful grin. “I’ll show you to your palace for the week.”
He raised an eyebrow, looking at me like I’d just given him an order, which, okay, maybe I had. But hey, I wasn’t going to apologize for it. He looked at me for a second, then with that cool, almost too-calm voice of his, he said, “Giving orders now, are we?”
I blinked, a little taken aback. Did Kunal just flirt? Or was that sarcasm? Either way, I was here for it. My cheeks flushed just a little—okay, maybe a lot—but I tried to play it off. “I mean, someone’s gotta keep you in check, right?” I shot back, giving him a cheeky grin.
