Chapter 2

Later that night:

I wait across the midway The Pavilion with my friend bonnie a little thing me and James set up for Steve in secret of course. I fix my dress flatting the skirt on the light weight and flowy dark green fabric falling just above my knees and in a pair of black heels. "When do you think they will get here?" bonnie ask as she turns to look at me bonnie was in a maroon button up dress with her dirty blonde hair half up and in light makeup "I'm not sure but probably any minute" I say as the monorail speed overhead both me and bonnie look up and when I look down, I see James and Steve talking probably about girls judging by James's grin and Steves annoyed and frowning expression I chuckle and we meet them half the sound of yelling and popcorn popping in the back ground as bonnie and Steve shake hands god he's awkward I think to myself I shoot him a look like chill Steve. James pulls me into a hug by the waist and placing a soft kiss on my forehead, light in his eyes making me fall even more his arm moves around over my shoulders and my arm wraps around his waist as we walk past exhibits that line the wall. The speaker says "Dr. Phineas Horton presents... the synthetic man!" bonnie walks beside us Steve tags after. I turn my head looking back at him with a slight frown on my face as he walks with his head down and hands in his hands in his pockets being ignored.

Later: Everyone applauds, and bonnie is swooning over Howard stark as he disappears under the stage. "Hey, Steve. What do you say we treat these ladies-" I hear James say i look over to see Steves gone and in his place a little girl eating the peanuts her bought earlier. I look up at James "I know where he is give me a couple minutes" I say to James and leave him and bonnie heading to the recruitment center. I find him standing in front of a mirror the uniform on it, Steve barely seeing over the collar. I lean against the wall by the mirror so he can see me "you're missing the point of having fun Steve." I pause and look at him, the look on his face making me feel bad for leaving next week "Come on we're going to get chocolate soda and go dancing" I cross my arms "you go ahead" he says and I frown slightly and grab his hand gently "come on steven, you still owe for that dance in 7th grade" I say with a teasing tone as I rock our extended hands left to right and make puppy dog eyes. I look at the recruitment signs as James walks up "you're really gonna do this now?" he says to Steve. I look at Steve and grab James's hand as we look at Steve "Steve you can try later just not now let's go have some fun before James leaves" I say in that voice that most of the time works on him "it's a fair. I'm going to try my luck" he says, and I scoff slightly annoyed and James speaks up "As who? "Steve from Ohio"? They'll catch you. Or worse, they'll take you". I look at them as they continue and after a couple minutes bonnie walks over "hey Mia, we getting' those sodas" Bonnie says "yeah" I say to her and take her hand and walking to the line giving the boys some space. Apart of me is worried for Steve because once James leaves tomorrow and I leave next week he'll have no one to defend him. I mean why did I have to be a sister, I love it but it feels like I have to keep Steve safe and if I don't, I have failed him and myself. And on top of that James leaves for Europe tomorrow anything could happen to him out there it scares me to think about it. "Earth to Mia" Bonnie says as she snaps her fingers in front of my face "sorry, B I was just thinking too much" I say and seconds later James puts me under his arm he looks down at me with a smile "what do you say we go get those drinks and dance shall we Rosie?" he says looking in my eyes all my worry's go away for a little bit. "Sounds amazing" I say with a smile and we walk forward. After we found a table, he goes and grabs the sodas and some guy takes Bonnie for some food she looks back at me like she's in love already her weakness being him i mean glasses and he's getting her food, my girl is a goner I think as she winks and i roll my eyes playfully. "Order for party of two" James says in a cheesy tone as he brings the drinks to me.I look in his eyes as he sits down and think I love him so much and he could die in this war. That thought needs to leave I really don't want to cry. He grabs my hand and pulls me to my feet I grab my drink and he puts me under his shoulder taking me someplace I have no clue to. The distant sound of music getting closer i smile looking up at him "so are you going to tell me where we're going or do I have to guess?" i say knowing where we are going anyway "well maybe you'll just have to be patient huh, sweetheart?" he says with a smirk. I roll my eyes playfully and two minutes later we arrive at the dance floor dancing to a couple songs and then a slow song comes on "I'll be seeing you"- Billie Holiday why this song? I might cry, our left hands come together and my head rests on his shoulder as he holds our hands close to his chest and the other hand on my lower back my other hand resting on his upper back as we sway back and forth to the music. A tear falls down my cheek, I lift my head looking in his eyes the moon light hitting them just right his hand comes up and wipes the tear off my cheek with his thumb never breaking eye contact he whispers "I love you Rosie" "I love you too James" I whisper back. He tilts his head down and our lips meet, like always with this man i feel tingles through my whole body when we kiss.
