Lab day

Time Skip: to Saturday in the lab
I place 10 vials in the holders and look over at Howard and Dr. Erskine "this better not hurt him" I say with a protective tone. "I guarantee he will be fine by the calculations I have made it will work just fine" Erskine says I sigh. Still worried I shake my head slightly and look around seeing a film crew and senator Brandt the man with glasses he looks important, I mentally say as I grab my clip board walking out the metal doors as the two soldiers open them for me and stop when I see Steve and Peggy walking down the stairs. "there's the dummy that jumped on a grenade" I say and look at Peggy "Agent carter" I say with respect "hey you also tried to jump on it Mia" Steve says back and Peggy nods. I place a gentle hand on his shoulder "you ready for this?" I ask almost as if I'm trying to convince myself he's ready "calm down Mia I'll be fine" he says, knowing what I'm thinking. I sigh and lead them down the hall way and the soldiers open the doors again. The multiple soldier's, engineers, and scientists stopping what they are doing and look at Steve with respect. I notice the look between Steve and Peggy and I mentally think to ask what that was about later. We walk down the stairs to Dr. Erskine. I look over at Steve my eyes full of concern, what if this goes wrong and he's hurt I would never forgive myself. "Good morning" Dr. Erskine's says as he shakes Steve's hand. The camera flashes at Steve causing me to blink I wasn't expecting that. I walk over to Howard "is everything all set" I ask quietly "everything is fine" we may dim half the lights in Brooklyn though" he says with a slight laugh. I look over at Steve as he takes his hat, tie and shirt off and hands them to a nurse. I walk over to him and give him a hug "we can stop if it gets too much you know that right?" I say in his ear "Mia, I'll be fine" he says pulling away and goes to lay down on the machine i walk over to the side watching him shaking slightly. "Comfortable?" Dr. Erskine asks Steve "it's a little big" I hear Steve say and I crack a small smile "Mr. Stark How are your levels?" Dr. Erskine asks louder than before. I look over at the levels seeing them at 100%. I nod slightly starting to overthink this whole thing but every will be okay I tell myself "Levels are 100%. We may dim half the lights in Brooklyn, but we're ready. As we'll ever be." Stark says and I can see Steve eye him warily. The nurse's start to place 6 serum vials in the machine leaving 4 in the holder as Dr. Erskine speaks "Ladies and gentlemen, this morning we do not take another step toward annihilation. Today, we take the first step on the path to peace." I take a deep breath continuing to look at Steve my eyes never leaving him. "We will begin with a series of micro-injections to the subject's major muscle groups." Erskine says into the microphone I mouth what he is says as I had heard him practice this speech for days. I glace over my mind muffling out the noises and talking around me as the machine I watch as the vial inject into Steve and look over at Howard as he pulls a lever. The table slowly tilts upright like a rocket ready to launch. The panels unfold and the hood lowers over Steves head, sealing him inside the vita chamber. A window framing Steves face my heart beating fast as Erskine talks into a mic. "Steven? can you hear me?" "It's probably too late to go to the bathroom?" Steve responds and I breath he's okay so far "we will proceed" Erskine says I shift my weight as Howard turns the dial a piercing whine fills the room. On the gauge, the needle begins to climb. 10, 20... the orange light builds and I don't realize I was holding my breath. 30, 40... Erskine checks Steve's vitals. He nods to Howard, who turns the dial higher. 50, 60... The EKG beeps faster...and faster... I stand up straighter my concern growing higher. 70... the glow surges, covering the window hiding Steve... a scream echoes from the speaker. Erskine rushes to the window, but can't see in. He barks into the microphone. And I step closer "Steven? STEVEN?" Erskine says "turn it off!" I yell at Howard "Shut it down!" Peggy shouts "Howard shut it off!" I yell at him "Kill the reactors Mr. Stark!" Erskine yells at Howard and shaking i run over to help "No!" Steve shouts for inside I lift my head looking at the machine "Don't! I can do this!" he yells and Howard starts turning it again I watch the machine glow brighter as he gets to 100% and I hold my breath the machine humming louder. The noise around me quiet as the panels open. Dr. Erskine helps him out I run over "Steve... you okay there? I ask as he stands up and he nods "yeah I'm okay" he says and I see how much taller he is "are you kidding me you're taller than me now, the one thing I had over you!" I say and he chuckles Erskine and Howard under his arms "don't forget I'm still older than you" he says with a cocky smirk earning a smack from me. I move to the side as Peggy runs up "how do you feel?" she asks "taller" he respond looking down at her and I smirk seeing her look over his muscles I know that look I get the same one with James whenever I see him oh my god, she's falling for him. "I knew it" I whisper to myself. Dr. Erskine walks over to me "Mia I would like to ask something of you" he says "I'm all ears sir." I say and look at him as he pulls, me to side slightly "We would like to give you half of what we gave Steven seeing as we know it works now" he says quietly. My eyes widen slightly as I shake my head slightly "Why me Why not Peggy" I ask and think is this how Steve felt "Mia we need a good person and that's what you are," he says with that German accent. Suddenly a there was an explosion in the gallery happens and a guy grabs a vial or serum and starts shooting, everyone ducks but Dr. Erskine gets shot twice dropping to the ground as blood pools around him. I bend down and Peggy runs after the guy Steve comes over to us Dr. Erskine puts both of his pointer fingers on our hearts and then his hands fall down and his eyes shut Steve looks at me with the same look he gives me when his about to down something I won't like and runs out the door I stand up and grab Howard's arm "give me the serum" I say and I wasn't asking anymore "Yes ma'am" he says "Ladies and gentlemen please move away from the machine" he says loudly as I step in the machine unbuttoning my shirt and handing it to a nurse. Everyone watching moves away from the machine. The nurses moving fast to place the vials in the machine and getting me ready like they did with Steve. The needles going into me as the serum is injected. I take a deep breath as the panels close around me and hood closes over my head. Stark throws a switch, and the Vita Ray reactors come online. Finally, Howard turns the power dial. And everyone goes quiet the piercing whine fills the room for the second time today. 10, 20... my face tenses. And the orange light builds in intensity 30, 40... I close my eyes tight as the pain grows. Howard checks my vitals and turns the dial higher a rush of heat coming over my body. 50, 60... the EKG beeps faster...and faster... I'm okay I tell myself as the pain gets worse. 70, 80... the EKG shrieks. I hear a knock on the chamber "Mia you okay in there?" Howard asks "Keep going I'll be okay" I say so he hears me. 90... 100... I clinch my hands in fist and groan loudly and then the pain stops and the machine hisses open and straps are undone I fall forward into someone's arms it's Peggy. I open my arms my breathing heavy "Mia? Are you alright?" she asks as I take my shirt from the nurse putting it on "yeah. Is he back?" I ask as see the look on her face she didn't know and she was worried I finish buttoning my shirt and look at her before runs out the door. Shit when did I get this fast oh right super soldier serum. I follow the trail on crashes and chaos and see Steve by the dock I run over and hug him. My breathing heavy and my head spinning as I look over his face and then see the blood on his side "Are you okay what happened?" I ask as I see the guy that stole the vial dead on the concrete and the vial smashed.
