The festive atmosphere of the ball continued around them, but Draco felt a shift in the air, a fragile hope blossoming where regret once thrived. He glanced around the ballroom, seeing the same familiar faces but feeling utterly changed. His mind, however, kept drifting back to Faith.

As the night wore on, he found himself unable to focus on the conversations around him. Pansy attempted to engage him in idle chatter, but her words fell on deaf ears. All he could think about was Faith and the dance they had shared—the way she had looked at him, the subtle smile that had played at the corners of her lips.

"Draco!" Pansy's voice cut through his thoughts like a knife. "Are you even listening to me?"

"Sorry, Pansy. I... just need a moment," he replied, excusing himself as he sought solace on the balcony, the cool night air a welcome relief from the bustling ballroom.

The moonlight illuminated the grounds, casting an ethereal glow. He leaned against the railing, the weight of the evening settling heavily on his shoulders. Just then, he heard soft footsteps behind him. Turning, he found Faith emerging from the ballroom, her expression thoughtful.

"Thought I might find you out here," she said, a hint of a smile gracing her lips.

"Can't resist a good view," he replied, trying to keep the mood light. "How about you?"

"I needed a breath. It's a lot to process," she admitted, glancing up at the stars. "This whole evening... It's brought back memories."

"Good ones, I hope," Draco said, moving closer.

Faith turned to him, her eyes sparkling with something he couldn't quite read. "Some, yes. But also a lot of confusion."

"I understand. I don't expect you to have all the answers right now," he said, his voice earnest. "But I want to help you find them."

"Draco," she began, hesitating. "What if I can't forget what happened? What if we end up hurting each other again?"

He stepped closer, his heart racing. "We won't know unless we try. I'm willing to put in the effort. I want to be better for you."

A silence stretched between them, filled only by the distant music and laughter from inside. Faith seemed to weigh her options, and he could see the flicker of hope fighting against the walls she had built around her heart.

"Why do you care so much?" she finally asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Because I was an idiot to let you go," he admitted. "You're more than just my past, Faith. You're... everything I never knew I wanted."

She looked at him, her gaze searching for sincerity. "What if I'm not that girl anymore?"

"Then let me discover the woman you've become," he urged. "You've changed, and so have I. We can start fresh."

Faith's eyes softened, and for a moment, Draco dared to hope. "Okay," she said slowly. "Let's see where this goes. But I need you to be honest with me, no more lies."

"I promise," he replied, his heart racing. "No more lies."

As they stood on the balcony, the stars twinkling above them, Draco felt a sense of relief wash over him. He had taken the first step, and while the path ahead was uncertain, they were finally on it together.

"Let's head back in," Faith suggested, breaking the tension. "I can't let Pansy think she's got you all to herself."

Draco chuckled, the sound lightening the mood. "Good point. Besides, I'd much rather dance with you than listen to her ramble on about the latest trends."

They reentered the ballroom, and as the next song began, Draco took her hand again. This time, the dance felt different—charged with possibility, with a promise of what could be.

As they swayed to the music, he couldn't shake the feeling that they were on the brink of something new, something worth fighting for. He held her close, feeling the warmth radiate between them, a connection that had never truly faded.

In that moment, under the soft glow of the chandeliers, Draco vowed to himself that he would do everything in his power to make things right, to win back the heart of the girl he had once lost. And as he looked into her eyes, he knew he would never let her go again.
