Chapter 25

"What do you mean by "gone"?"

"Stein and Marie's soul wavelengths just vanished."

"You've been able to sense their soul wavelength this whole time, even at a magnetic field that strong?" Kid turns to look at me.

"I've been able to sense it too," Maka speaks up, "but I only get a spark here and there."

"Well, I've been able to sense it clearly and them disappearing like that, it's. . ghastly. And something isn't right. I can tell."

"Alright," Kid starts to walk toward the field. "I'll go in and check it out. Since I'm a Grim Reaper, my body shouldn't be affected to much by the field."

"No, Kid!" Jumping in front of him, Maka tries to reason with him. "It isn't safe to go alone."

"Come on . ." He growls lowly.

"In that case, we're coming with you." I gesture behind me to Black Star and Kilik.

"What about the Professor's orders?" Ox questions, "he was very explicit."

Kim sighs, "I can't come, or else there won't be anyone to send the signal."

While figuring out who goes and who stays, if it wasn't for Ox, a throwing star almost lodges itself in Maka's head. "Anyway, it doesn't look like we're alone anymore."

A large troop from Arachnophobia heads in our direction. "No worries, we can take care of them." Ox says.

Kim holds up her lantern, defensively. "You guys get inside the field, leave them to us."

"I can't go in there and leave my team behind to fight these guys," Kilik groans, "tell you what, Black Star -- take this." Kilik hands him the chocolate bar from earlier.

He drools, "Ooh, a candy bar~! A warm and comforting treat in a cold, freezing wasteland~!"

"Just take it, will you?" Walking in between them, I grab the candy from Kilik, rip the wrapper off and shove it inside Black Star's mouth. "Can we go now?"

Snapping out of it, he smirks, "We'll be back."

The four of us walk toward the field. I look at my team, "Are you ready?"

They nod back to me. " Let's go."

We wait for Maka to get through before going anywhere. When she does though, Maka makes a comment on the rest of us "moving fast". She was just slow.

As she looks up, she sees the tall building we've all become entranced with. When we we're looking in from outside, the building was completely destroyed - now it was whole.

"I still can't sense the professor's soul. . ." She says.

"Or Marie's." I take a glance in her direction.

"Maybe they went inside the pyramid. .?"

"Hey, look up there!" I point towards the sky.

It was Lord Death.
