It nagged at his mind.

Conjured up questions and thoughts so often he fought tooth and nail to keep them within. It plagued his thoughts almost as much as you did and he'd only thought about it more since you left.

How did the emperor know wild magic was bad?

He'd asked in the past though little explanation had been given, vague stories of missing family members and unfinished sentences regarding it were all he'd ever been given. In all of his studies, in all the ancient books he'd read within the emperor's covens library he'd found nothing that suggested war before covens.

The owl lady used wild magic and she wasn't inherently bad, Flapjack was wild magic and he wasn't bad, you used wild magic. You weren't- you weren't bad.

His thoughts were conflicting. The emperor, his uncle, had raised him and had given him a home, a purpose. But you'd been the one to make this place home, to make him see he was more than the expectations of others.

His footsteps echoed through the deserted halls, reverberating off the walls making him seem bigger and louder than he actually was.

He'd worked for weeks to build his courage, pouring over ancient texts and recalling every instance he'd seen you dabble in wild magic. Had pulled all the facts and information he was privy to together in hopes that he wouldn't make a fool of himself.

With a shuddering breath, he held his closed fist over the door to his uncle's chambers, the heart of the boiling isle thumped softly within. Rapping his knuckles against the gold-accented doors he waited in anxious anticipation and did his best to calm the rapid beats his heart was taking.

With an ear-piercing screech, the doors swung open, revealing Belo's hunched form and an annoyed Kikimora beside him. Swallowing his anxiety with a loud gulp he clenched his fists and entered.

Belos watched him with curious eyes.

"Hunter!" He greeted,
"What a surprise" His booming voice echoed.

The sound drowned out his own timid steps as he neared his uncle's throne.

"Emperor Belos," He returned, taking a knee and kneeling before him.

The courage he'd mustered was already dwindling, though he fought to ask, his lips stayed glued shut as the words faded to nothingness on the tip of his tongue. He questioned whether or not he should even ask, his indecisiveness was rapidly ruining his resolve.

Clearing his throat, Belos spoke,

"What can I do for you?"

He breathed in deeply then slowly let it out. He could do this.

"I came to ask-" He paused, the waver in his voice forcing him silent.
"I came to ask about wild magic," He said again, praying his false confidence sounded more real to them than it did him.

The room quietened, Kikimora, the guards surrounding the room and Belos himself stunned silent. The steady beats of the titan's heart became rapid in pace as they matched Hunter's own. A sardonic grin formed against Belos's wrinkled mouth.

He glanced at Kikimora, waving her and the guards surrounding the room off. With a nod she left, guards obediently following behind. Once the doors had shut Belos turned back to him.

"Must we have this conversation once more nephew?"

Hunter tensed, he was at the point of no return. Either he powered through, or he let it go and leave the questions that burned his mind unanswered.

"I- I just thought, if I knew more, if I could understand it. I could help you- I could help others!" He pleaded, pulse thrumming in his veins as anxiety spiked within his chest.
