Just as the debate seemed to reach its peak, the room shifted. The sudden murmur of the audience caught my attention, pulling my focus away from Olivia’s relentless accusations. I noticed a subtle flicker on the massive screen behind the candidates- the broadcast had been interrupted.
I froze, heart racing, as the room erupted in gasps. Olivia’s posture stiffened, her face tightening, but her calm façade didn’t crack. Not yet. The moderator, clearly flustered, fumbled for words.
Tyler...
Even though it was two days late- he did it. He actually did it.
"Senator Coleman," he stammered, eyes darting between the screen and Olivia, "we’ve just received breaking news-allegations of extramarital affairs involving yourself and numerous women, including prominent political figures. Can you comment on this?"
The tension was suffocating. Olivia’s expression didn’t change as she slowly turned her head toward the screen, then back to the moderator. "These accusations," she began, her voice steady, "are nothing but a smear campaign- a desperate attempt to derail my candidacy. I have nothing to hide."
But the moderator wasn’t letting it go. His eyes narrowed, clearly sensing blood in the water. "There are documents, Senator. Names. Evidence. How do you respond to claims of misconduct, especially in the wake of your strong stance on family values and integrity?"
Kamala, sitting beside me, shifted forward. I could feel the tension rolling off her, and when she spoke, her voice was sharp, controlled, but laced with disdain.
"It's interesting, Olivia," Kamala said, her eyes locking onto Olivia with an intensity that made the air in the room crackle. "You’ve spent the entire campaign hammering on family values, accusing others of lacking moral fiber, all while hiding something like this. How can the public trust you when you can’t even be honest about your own personal life?"
Olivia’s jaw clenched, and I saw her composure falter for just a second. "This is a private matter," she retorted, her voice tight. "And it has no bearing on my ability to lead."
Kamala didn’t miss a beat. "But it does, Olivia," she shot back, leaning in slightly. "Because you've built your entire platform on integrity. You’ve stood on this stage, criticizing others, questioning their values, while behind closed doors, you were betraying not just your wife, but the people who trusted you. This isn’t just about your personal life- it’s about the hypocrisy that you’ve been hiding."
The audience buzzed with anticipation, and the moderator pressed on. "Misses Coleman, what about the politicians involved? Do you deny those relationships as well?"
Olivia’s eyes flickered to me, the mask of calm cracking. "These so-called revelations are baseless," she said coldly, her voice losing its earlier strength. "I will not let my personal life become fodder for political attacks."
