_______________________Her world is a sea of crimson and neon pink, swirling in a dizzying torrent-altered, twisted, enhanced. Stronger, faster, tougher, wilder. Her limbs jitter, a constant twitch beneath the surface of her skin, her teeth clattering in the dark, gnashing, grinding, her jaw aching from the pressure. The heat in her veins pulses with every heartbeat, the burn coursing through her body, too much, too fast, too alive. She hates it. The pain always fades too quickly, the burn dulls, never lasting long enough to give her that release, the one she craves.
She lifts the glass to her lips, the liquid inside bitter and sharp. She doesn't even know what she ordered, doesn't care. It all tastes like smoke in her mouth.
The world blurs at the edges, but one thing remains clear-him. Ekko. Across the room, laughing with people she doesn't care to know, smiling like none of it ever happened. Like she never happened.
It drives her crazy. Burning.
The heat rises in her throat, tighter and tighter, the knot twisting until it's almost unbearable. Her fingers grip the glass so hard she swears it might shatter, but she can't let it go. Not yet. Not when he's right there, living a life she isn't part of anymore.
The bar is crowded tonight, full of faces she doesn't recognize, full of voices that blur into one endless, irritating hum. But his voice-his laugh-it cuts through everything. Sharp, piercing. She'd know it anywhere.
Jinx pulls her hood lower over her face, watching him from the shadows, always watching. She's gotten good at it. No one ever notices her anymore unless she wants them to.
And Ekko-Ekko never looks her way. It's like she's a ghost, like she died somewhere in the past and only her shadow remained. But he's wrong. She's here. She's always been here.
Her heart pounds harder, too fast, too much. She wonders how he can laugh so easily. After everything she did, everything they were, how can he sit there and just... be fine? With her.
Janna's there, too. Of course she is. Smiling, laughing. That sickly sweet look she always wears, like she belongs there, like she's earned it. Like Ekko's hers now.
Jinx's hand trembles, glass rattling in her grip. She wants to rip her apart, tear her out of that life that was hers first. But no. Not like that. Not face-to-face. Janna doesn't deserve to see her coming.
No, Jinx would take her time. She'd wait, plan, watch. The way she always does. Janna won't even know what hit her.
Ekko leans in close, whispering something in Janna's ear. Jinx can't hear the words, but she doesn't need to. Her teeth grind together, jaw tight. The red-hot anger throbs in her chest, drowning out the noise of the bar. Drowning out everything but them.
They think they're safe. They think they've moved on. But Jinx-she never lets go.
And so the bar dissolves behind her, nothing but static and noise, her mind buzzing louder than the world around her. It's always like this-too much, never enough.
She slips out into the street, the cool air biting at her skin. Neon signs flicker overhead, casting the alley in harsh shades of blue and red, but it feels dead. The colors don't burn like they used to, don't scream for attention. Nothing screams anymore.
