Sora couldn't sleep. The adrenaline rush from the pillow fight, coupled with the late-night cleaning, had left her mind racing. She tossed and turned, the soft mattress beneath her seeming to offer little comfort yet failing to let her escape from the loneliness she felt.
Finally, unable to endure the restlessness any longer, Sora slipped out of bed and made her way to the rooftop. The cool night air wrapped around her, a refreshing contrast to the stifling warmth of the apartment.A clear view of the forest that people now infamously called the cursed forest after the attack before curfew was issued a few months ago. The city below was bathed in a soft, ethereal glow, the lights twinkling like a million stars.
A full moon hung in the sky, its silvery light casting long, dancing shadows across the rooftops. Sora leaned against the railing, her gaze fixed on the celestial body. The wind whipped through her hair, carrying with it a sense of peace and tranquility.
As she stood there, lost in thought, she felt a familiar presence behind her. She turned to see Jake, his eyes reflecting the moonlight.
"Couldn't sleep?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper as he approached to stand beside her.
Sora nodded, her heart fluttering at the sight of him. The moonlight bathed his features in a soft, ethereal glow, making him seem almost unreal.
They stood together in silence for a long time, their thoughts lost in the vast expanse of the night sky. The city below seemed so small and insignificant from this height, a reminder of the vastness of the universe and the fleeting nature of human existence.
As the minutes passed, Sora felt a sense of calm wash over her. The worries and anxieties that had plagued her earlier seemed to fade away, replaced by a sense of peace and contentment. She turned to Jake, her eyes filled with gratitude.
"Do you have plans for tomorrow?," she said softly. "It's new year after all."
Jake's lips fuddled before breaking into a short smiled, his eyes warm yet a little bewildered about his plans. "I don't." he replied. "You?"
"You should celebrate I mean..." she shrugs before adding "There are rumors we might see an eclipse tomorrow." Jake's eyes snap to look at her immediately and he looks away mentally facepalming to himself.
"How could I forget damn it!"
Sora looked at the bright light of the moon shining as the night light over the city like stars. She reached into her sweat pants pulling out her phone attached to her wired headphones.
"Wanna listen?" She forwarded one of strings of her headphones in the palm of her right hand silently offering him to listen with her.
Jake looked at her offer and scoffed softly before putting it in his left ear as he rested his arms on the railings alongside her.
