It was very possible she was overreacting. But her sensibility.. and general ability to judge situations, had left her the second she was looking down that barrel. All she had left now, was the bear instinct to protect her brother, no matter what.
So, even though the people approaching her were her new supposed family, she still raised her gun towards them. Raelynn wasn't even sure if she could pull the trigger.. after all, her hand was covered in blood. Not only could her finger slip on the trigger.. she wasn't even entirely sure if there were still bullets left in it.
But, she hoped the threat was enough to get these people to leave her alone. Ever since they had entered the Shelby territory, nothing good happened. Raelynn should've just kept her mouth shut, and found another way to keep her and Dorian together, without involving the Shelby's. Because she knew that if she continued to stay around them, more people would come after her and her brother.
Even though her head spun, and black spots clouded her vision from time to time, Raelynn was still determined to remain strong, for Dorian.
Finally, after what felt like hours, Raelynn's mind cleared up enough for her to point the barrel directly at Thomas Shelby. She didn't know why she was aiming it at her father, maybe it was some sort of revenge for his absence in her life. However, she also knew, that deep down, they wouldn't let her leave. She was now a Shelby by name, and that would never change. Which is why she decided to speak to him, "So.. What now?"
Confusion quickly showed itself on Thomas's face, as his brothers both looked at him in shock. They appeared baffled at either, Raelynn's assumption that they would welcome her into the family, or the opposite.
Maybe this incident didn't change anything. Maybe they wouldn't abandon her after such a small break of trust, or kill her. But she would be punished, she had to be. She had learned that inconvenience caused annoyance, and annoyance led to anger.. And where there was anger, beatings and violence followed. Especially when Raelynn was the cause of that anger.
The girl was getting more the more anxious as the silence stretched on.. In that time she finally noticed that both her uncles were holding a pistol in their hand, where Thomas had put his back in its holster minutes ago. This, combined with her father's calm demeanor, made Raelynn realize that she was simply out-matched. She had no power at the moment, no protection from the threat in front of her.
She looked down at her brother, and decided that a gunfight was the most dangerous thing that could happen. Dorian was totally defenseless, being unconscious. This meant that even if something happened, he wouldn't be able to run.. he wouldn't even know that there was danger around him. So, Raelynn decided that no matter what was in store for her, she had to convince the three men not to hurt her brother. Not to hurt him for a event that she had caused.
"I won't fight you," she spoke softly as she lowered her gun, "we all know that I would be outmatched anyway." Moving slowly as to seem as little of a threat as possible, Raelynn placed the weapon in the grass. Then, she pushed it farther away from her, in the direction of her father. It was now too far for her to reach quickly, which meant she was basically defenseless.
This fact made her heartbeat quicken, as the stressful situation really started to settle in. Her voice shook as she spoke, "We can't go back to that place, they'll take him from me." The girls lip started to quiver as the strong facade she tried to keep, fell. After all, she was still just a teenage girl, trying to keep her brother safe. She started to ramble, as she slowly raked her fingers through her brother's hair, "They'll send him off to some fuckin farm in the country.. or a workhouse. Someplace where he'll be alone and scared."
The mere thought of her brother meeting such a unlucky fate, made a wave of dread and sadness blow through her. Her vision grew cloudy, as tears gathered in her eyes. Raelynn's focus slowly shifted back towards her father, as she looked up at him, "But, I won't let you hurt him either.. punish him for following my lead. Dorian's gone through too much pain. "
