It is commonly known that a near death experience makes one's life flash before their eyes. Most, believe this is a figure of speech, an exaggeration. Which is fair, because most have never experience such a deadly moment, and live to tell the tail.
However, Raelynn was slowly becoming painfully aware that she was, in fact.. one of those lucky few. Her ears were ringing as she felt a burning pain in the side of her head. At first, she was very confused. The girl had believed she was a goner, that she was going to be killed and there was no one there to save her. But, somehow.. someway, help arrived just in time.

As the ringing died down, she could hear painful grunting next to her. Her first thought was that Dorian had woken up, and needed her help. Though, she felt anger rising in her chest when she realized it was the groaning of the man who had tried to kill her.

The throbbing in her head didn't go away. Actually.. it got worse. The girl believed that maybe she simply had a very painful headache. Which would make sense, because she had just been shot at. But, when she reached up to the side of her face, she felt a sticky liquid on her skin. Immediately, she retracted her, now covered, palm and started inspecting the substance. It was blood.

Once she realized that she was in fact bleeding, Raelynn cautiously reached up to the side of her head again. As she gently caressed her cheek, she slowly searched farther up for the source of the pain. Quickly, she figured out that the source of the blood and the intense burning, was her ear. Her left ear, which was almost entirely gone.

A wave of nausea swept over her, as she realized the extent of the damage. However, like before, this discovery seemed only make her more enraged. A man, who she didn't even know personally, had the guts to hurt her. And, not only did he hurt her, but he also attacked her brother.

But, that didn't matter now. Because even though Raelynn was disorientated, she knew that she had to protect her brother.. that the surroundings were still unsafe. So, on wobbly legs, she stood and scanned the area around her. She took note of the bleeding man a few feet in front of her. She also quickly spotted the gun he had once held to her head, and swiftly grabbed it. The barrel was still warm from being shot seconds ago.. where in comparison, the grip was chill to the touch.

Her blurry vision focused intently on the mystery man, as she slowly walked towards him, like a tiger hunting prey. As she got closer, she took note of the fact that he was very clearly injured. While lying on the floor, he braced his shoulder with his hand, as he tried to get his legs underneath him. However, any progress he had made, proved useless. Because, when Raelynn was in reach, she hit him hard on the side of the head, with the barrel of the pistol.

She hit him as hard as she could. And in her mind, it was the perfect payback. After all, he had hit Dorian as hard as he could.. with the same gun, earlier. The girl pointed the weapon at his forehead, basically switching their positions from before. However, she decided that it would be too quick of a death.. he deserved to suffer. And, she needed information.

So, she tossed the gun a good distance away from them, far enough where the attacker wouldn't be able to reach it even if he tried. Then, she pulled him towards her, with the front of his shirt. He didn't have time to prepare for the blow, as Raelynn wound up her fist.. and socked him in the nose. Punch after punch connected with his face, which ended up being more than anyone would care to count. Blood and sweat splattered all over his face, Raelynn's body, and the ground around them.

By the time Raelynn had finally pulled herself out of her anger induced frenzy, the man below her was nearly unrecognizable. He was missing several teeth, and supporting a newly broken nose and jaw. The girl was sure that her fist probably didn't look much better than he did, but she didn't really care. Her injuries would have to wait.
