Emmett Laurier
~•~
This was karma for being a bad person.
There was no other explanation for the week I'd had. Students crushing on me was fine. It was expected, but having one of them who was too bold for her good inside my house... that was torture.
What was even worse was the fact that I was curious about her. I knew I needed to shut that down or it would lead me to hell fast.
"So when are you going to tell me your age?" She asked as she stuffed a piece of meatloaf into her mouth. Her food was great but telling her that would only increase her ego.
"Did I ever intend to?"
"If you don't, I'll take a picture of both of us right now and tell everyone you forced me into your house. You'll get fired and you might even get arrested."
I stared at her for a long moment. I had threatened her some hours ago, but I didn't think she'd turn around and threaten me back.
"And a picture will be the proof for that?"
"You'll see. Who do you think they'll believe when they see an innocent student in her principal's house? What other reason could I be here for?"
"So you're threatening me?" She nodded shamelessly. "Go ahead."
There was a long pause, then, "What?" She exclaimed dramatically.
If petty things like having my student in my house could get me arrested, I would have been locked up already for even worse things. There wasn't anything I couldn't get out of, so her threat was useless.
"You don't care?"
"You'd be soling your own reputation, Miss Whitlock. You're an adult, having a meal in your principal's house. Some would assume you came here to seduce me."
She grimaced. "You don't have to call me that outside of class. You can call me Hazel."
"Miss Whitlock," I said pointedly. Calling her by her first name would create an air of familiarity between us. I didn't want that.
She looked annoyed. "Fine, have it your way, but at least tell me your name."
"You're lusting over a man whose age you don't know?"
Her eyes went wide and she started blushing, her eyes darting everywhere but me. "What? Lusting?" She coughed. "What makes you think that? Why would you even say that?"
True. I wasn't supposed to say it out loud even if I knew it, but it was nice watching her get embarrassed. She was too bold a person to be around me. It wouldn't be long before she acted on her little crush.
I held back a laugh. She was pretty amusing. "Thirty."
"What?" She finally looked at me again. I stared at her blankly. "Oh, you're thirty? Not so bad."
I arched an eyebrow. "'Not so bad? For what?"
"Haven't you already accepted the fact that I'm lusting over you?"
It was my turn to be caught off guard. She was embarrassed by it a few minutes ago. Now she was the one putting it out there. She was one crazy girl, but she was off-limits. I couldn't go there...
"Which makes it inappropriate for you to be alone with me." I looked at the watch on my wrist. "It's past eight. You may start leaving now."
She pouted, making me look away at once. I looked down at my food and was more than surprised to see that I was done eating. I had been done for a while and I spent the rest of the time talking to her... Fucking hell.
"It's late. I won't see you out." I was more determined to send her out after that realization.
"I'm not done cleaning though."
"It's fine. You can leave."
She let out a low sigh. "Fine. Let me do the dishes first."
"I can do them myself, Miss Whitlock. You may leave now."
"Are you kicking me out?"
I ignored her and stood up from the stool, ready to go back to work.
"As you wish then, Mr. Laurier." Her tone was sarcastic but I could hardly care, not when I had bigger problems at hand.
I stayed rooted in place and watched her pack her stuff before leaving without sparing me a glance. She was angry at me. She was one little fiery thing, but she didn't know what was good for her and what not. I was not good for her and if she persisted in her pursuit, she would eventually learn that the hard way.
Shortest chapter yet, I'm so sorry!
But I couldn't add anything more. Anyway, how long do you think Emmett is going to hold back?
I wanted to make him twice her age, but I thought it'd be too much, lol, so I changed it to 30.
I'm not used to writing men who don't immediately admit to themselves that they want a woman. It's hard so things might get heated up faster than expected.
This is a generally short book btw, so it'd be fast-paced. Enjoy!
