"How's your new job treating you?"

I closed my eyes briefly and let out a sigh before going back to lifting weights. "You should be careful around me. You're one of the people that persuaded me to take that job, you know?"

"So what? You're going to shoot me or something?"

"I might just," I muttered. "And in case you didn't know, you have a spare key for emergencies, not for showing up to my house unannounced and walking around like you own it."

Julian shrugged. "I didn't use the key."

"You know the passcode for the same reasons. Don't be dense."

"And stop being dramatic. Your place is mine as well. Mine is yours. We've established this a long time ago." I opened my mouth to oppose him, but he didn't let me speak. "I just wanted to let you know that the shipments this week went smoothly. There were no interruptions."

"This is something you could say over the phone, Julian. It takes a few words. You didn't have to come over."

"Yeah, but if I didn't, who would keep you company, you lonely bastard?"

My tongue poked the inside of my cheek, refraining from exchanging words with him. He made me act like a child sometimes and if I continued speaking, he would never stop yapping.

As I went back to working out, he walked out of the gym and came back inside a few minutes later in workout clothes that he most likely stole from my closet. I shook my head exasperatedly, not saying anything about it because he would never listen.

One of these days, I was truly going to shoot him.

As we worked out, we heard the doorbell ring. Julian spared me a glance. "Is this why you didn't want me to come? Were you expecting company? Is it a girl?"

"You're still thirsty at this age."

"Fuck off. I'll go check who's at the door."

I shrugged and let him do his thing. Whenever he was around, he acted like the owner of the house more than I did.

When Julian didn't come back up for a while, I decided to stop my routine and check downstairs for him. "Julian?" I called out, wondering if he had left already. But someone was at the door before. He wouldn't leave like that.

I found Julian in the kitchen, chatting with the same girl I had told not to come back to my place. Yesterday, she was wearing a simple T-shirt and baggy jeans. Today, she was wearing a cropped top and a pair of fancy shorts, showing off her long legs. Her belly piercing was obvious.

"You heard me clearly yesterday, didn't you?" I asked as I entered the kitchen. Julian and Hazel turned to look at me at the same time.

"She was here yesterday? Why didn't you call me?" Julian questioned. "You didn't tell me you had such a hot maid." He whistled. "I would have come here every day."

"She's not my maid. She's a child. Don't get improper thoughts."

"You have an underaged maid!?"

"I'm not underaged!" Hazel interrupted. She had already started cooking and it looked like she knew what she was doing so I couldn't just send her away. Maybe I needed to learn how to cook. Or I could just hire a different maid who didn't have a bold shameless daughter.

"She's in high school." I arched an eyebrow at her when she opened her mouth to argue again before closing it back when she realized I was just telling the truth.

"So why'd you hire her?"

"I hired her mom, not her. She's filling in."

"You know you can ask me questions about myself, Julian. I'm right here." They were already on a first-name basis? How fast did Julian work? It was obvious he had plans to fuck her if I didn't tell him that she was a child and for some reason, the thought of that didn't sit well with me and it wasn't just because she was my student.

Holding back a sigh, I turned around and left the kitchen, going back to the gym as I now had tension to release. I only saw this girl for the first time a week ago. How was she getting in my head already? What the hell?

Why was she so bold? Didn't she care about her education? Did she want to get expelled or something? What the fucking hell?

It was obvious she dressed like that to seduce me or something. It wasn't working but I was well aware to acknowledge the fact.

Another thirty minutes in the gym later and I was still irritated, especially because I knew she was down there, chatting with Julian like they were friends or something.

I gritted my teeth as I got into the shower, wondering why I was bothered about her. Was I that weak a man? Five days? And she had got into my head already? What was she? A little seductress?

I scoffed and focused on scrubbing my body. It didn't matter if she got in my head or not. I wouldn't have anything to do with her at all. She was my fucking student. She was still in high school.

I repeated that like a mantra in my head and when it didn't do anything to calm me down, I got out of the shower and fetched my phone, making a call to an acquaintance.

"Emmett." Sandra chuckled as she picked up the phone. "This is a pleasant surprise. You haven't called in a few months now."

"Are you busy?" I grumbled, going straight to the point.

"You want to see me this morning?"

"Yeah, come over to mine."

"I'll be there in thirty."

"Good." I hung up the call and dried off my body before picking out something to wear. I didn't have much work to do. It was the first week of school so schoolwork was barely there and as for the other business, Julian was taking care of it perfectly.

When I went back downstairs, Julian and Hazel were laughing over something. I doubted it was that funny.

"Are you with my key?" I asked Hazel, not caring that I interrupted their conversation.

"Yeah, my mom gave it to me."

I opened my palm in front of her and she stared at me in confusion. I arched an eyebrow and she sighed under her breath as she brought out the key from her pocket and placed it in my palm. "You'll only come in when I open the door for you. Relay that to your mother."

In other words, I wasn't going to open the door for her anymore. Being in the same house as her was making it feel like we were familiar with each other outside school grounds. It was going to drive me crazy very soon.

I didn't wait for her to respond before I went into my office to look for something to keep me busy while I awaited Sandra's visit.

Long time, sorryyyyy. I was sick asf.

I think taking a break has made me change the flow of the book but I'm not so sure. What do you think?
