The Black Science Society. We are the men and women who seek the knowledge that most common folk cannot begin to fathom upon. We are inventors, doctors, some of us study the very creatures of nature which walk among us. I sought after a knowledge once beloved impossible. The ability to harness the power of a God. I found a book when I was a younger lad that held what was called "alchemy" I remember the words my father said to me upon finding this book

"Loukios, as a scientist I will never forbid you to seek knowledge. But alchemy is a dangerous path to learn. This knowledge made your great-great-grandfather and his father before him powerful and turned them into men of unfathomable might. But it also turned your great-grandfather into a monster. It consumed him and destroyed him. Son, heed my warning. You can carry on learning or turn back and find a new path. You are a free-willed person. This is your decision. But I will always love you" he said to me sternly yet so lovingly.

He was a man who wished to create life. As I'd create chemical brews for potential medicine or poisons for the army which I supplied for a price. I'd hear my father's antics in the backyard "Father?" I yelled in an attempt to see if he was okay. "I'm alive, boy," he yelled back. I went to the backyard to see what new creature he was making. It was causing some small chaos. "What is that?" I exclaimed in horror. It was a bull-like I'd never seen before. It had 3 heads erecting from the neck, its teeth were uncannily humanoid, its skin beet red, and it had a deadly attitude. "Father, after the lion crown you made nearly ripped you to shreds and needed to be killed by 5 soldiers, why did you create something like this?" I'd asked with annoyance

"Worry yourself not an ounce. This was a request by a general in the barracks of the new cavalry division in the 30's. It's for their new sacrifice strategy. They'll send in a flock of naked men riding these monsters into anywhere we try to claim land for expansion. When the bull gets released the constant contact of human flesh will drive these babes to insanity and make them go on a rampage" he'd said so proud of himself

It was tempting to smack the bull on its rear ass but I wanted to see the old fart live for a bit longer. We heard a knock at the door. A strange man I didn't recognize til I saw his strange third eye. I'd opened the door to greet him; he was a professor who taught law over at the university. "How be it, brother Aulus" I greeted, embracing him. "All's swell, my friend. Might I find your father here?" He asked politely "We have a meeting upon the next new moon when night is darkest." "Ah, he's out back, working on some beast he'd created," I'd informed him."Ah if it's a bad time I can make haste into an absence"

"No need to rush now. I heard your voice," my father intruded pouring some red wine for Aulus.  "So you created the fabled 3 bastards bull" Aulus proclaimed. "'Twas a request under emperor Salapetna," replied my father. "Aye, I see. How much might he be paying you?" Asked Aulus, taking a swig of the wine he had been poured. "180,00 solidi upfront for a male and female, these babes breed like no tomorrow," Aulus spat out his wine "MY GOD MAN," he exclaimed intensely. "Yeah, he may not like it, but damn, is he good for business" we both agreed.

"Speaking of business, I've got to make a blood burner, my newest poison, which causes enemy blood to rise in temperature, causing them to boil from the inside out," I announced, making my way to the laboratory. I entered the door and took out some chemicals, all with strange names labeled. "Cyrodefeman" an unknown powder which will act as our base; the king needed it powdery, after all, for easier spreading. In its pure form, it was a deathly flammable substance used for ovens like a blacksmith or as a body burner.  Next, a stimulant sometimes used for personal pleasure, "Thexodydronixium" or as sometimes called around town, "Insomnius"  meant to cure lethargy and regular sickness by speeding up the body's healing process, but, taken in higher dosages, can cause extreme heat, vomiting, hallucinations, mania, all kinds of insanity.

Though it's bitter taste needs what I call a masque. It would hide the flavors of shit and bitterness to not allure any suspicions. The masque I chose was cinnamon. Its natural spice and decent scent were a satisfactory fit. I always tried adding more chemicals and substances, but the rats kept dying. So maybe I'll make this bare bones. Since this was airborne it'd need to explode and still poison its victims. 8 small spoons worth of Cydro, a wooden ladle of Inso powder I made through extreme heat, and our cinnamon masque. I fed a pellet to a rat and my amazement and horror it boiled from the inside, it smelt of dying meat.

My enthusiasm was quickly drawn to a new attention. The yells of an angry man "I TOLD YOU STOP COMING BY HERE. TAKE YOUR HOLY BOOK AND SHOVE IT. HIGH UP YOUR HEAVEN." The door slammed as I ran up. "Was it the priest again?" I asked in a panic. "He and a few of his monks. Wouldn't stop begging me to convert" I couldn't help but rub my temple, the 5th time this week.

I ran back down to complete my blood burner. It was nearly night, my father went to rest. Aulus went off to his lively duties. I prepared the final package. I contained it in a barrel so they could scoop it and fill it in their new bombs. As I cleaned up, I noticed a cabinet I'd never noticed. "Huh, how strange," I mumbled to myself. I opened it to find a book I'd never seen in a long eon.

The title read "Alchemy, the gift of a new science," the old Wisemans tale of the philosopher's stone; I created something like that once. It broke after a few uses.  I read this a bit at age 6, and alas, 2 decades and a year later it lays in its glory. I noticed a page that discussed an inner God within certain animals can possess, it was able to be accessed through near death. This fabled potion claimed it could send the brain to a state of near death and awaken the inner God. Most species can't understand that even if they have it their minds are too small to comprehend what this can truly do for their survival... but now a plethota of question's beckoned my mind.

Could a human potentially be granted this power

Can one harness the power of a God?

Is this going to be worth it?
