The dense trees of the Forest of Death loomed ahead, casting long shadows that seemed to reach for us. I stood with my team—Seiji, Kouta, among the rest of the examinees, my expression calm as I watched Anko's theatrics. She always loved putting on a show.

"This is where the second exam will take place. The 44th training grounds, also known as the Forest of Death," Anko announced, her grin widening like she expected us all to shiver in fear. I stifled a sigh. The Forest of Death was practically a second home for me. Training with my brother Shisui here had made me more than familiar with its dangers.

"You should experience soon why this place is called The Forest of Death," Anko continued with a giggle. Most of the other examinees stiffened. It was easy to spot the ones who hadn't been here before—eyes wide, nerves evident on their faces. I noted who seemed nervous and who stood confidently. They were all potential threats or obstacles.

Then, predictably, Naruto's voice rang out. "You should experience soon why this place is called The Forest of Death," he mocked, crouching with his fists on his hips and sticking his butt out. I could practically feel the secondhand embarrassment from his antics.

"There's no point in trying to scare us like that. I'm not scared at all, believe it!" Naruto shouted, grinning like he'd just won some invisible contest. His energy was ridiculous, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was real confidence or just bravado.

Anko's response was swift. She threw a kunai, grazing Naruto's cheek, and in the blink of an eye, she was behind him. "Boys like you die fastest," she whispered, wiping the blood on his cheek with a chilling smile. "After spilling that red blood that I love all over the place."

I noticed some of the rookies flinch. But I stayed relaxed; none of this was new to me.

"Before we begin the second exam, I'm going to pass these out to everyone," Anko said, pulling out a stack of papers. "These are consent forms. Those taking the exam must sign these." She laughed, the sound echoing through the clearing. "From here on, people will die. We need your consent before we continue. Otherwise, I'll be held responsible."

She started explaining the exam rules, and I paid attention just enough to follow along. I already knew the layout of the forest and its hazards. The rookies—Sasuke, Naruto, and the rest—were listening closely. Some of them looked uneasy, especially when Anko mentioned the competition over the scrolls and the risks involved.

When Anko explained the survival aspect, Chouji whimpered about the food. "Scrounge it up yourselves. The forest is a treasure box of nature," she replied, her grin widening. "However, there are man-eating beasts, poisonous bugs, and venomous plants."

I glanced at my teammates. Kouta looked excited, his eyes practically gleaming, while Seiji stayed focused, nodding along. Kouta, muttering about how this was going to be "a walk in the park."
