Glaslough, Ireland 1972.

Glaslough is a small village, populated by muggles. This particular summer evening, a grey owl flew over the city to deliver a very important letter. The Hogwarts acceptance letter was always delivered to witches and wizards that came of the age of 11 years old. The owl landed and delivered the letter to a tiny family house. Colette Byrne, daughter of Eloise and Martin Byrne, who worked as accountants, celebrated her eleventh birthday a month ago. It took her letter so long to arrive because of the storm and rain that was reigning  over their village. Finally, the letter arrived.
Eloise saw the letter fly through the letterbox. She stood up from the couch, where she and her family have watched a movie. She was a bit tired, having sat in front of the tv for quite some time. She rubbed her eyes as she slowly walked to pick up the letter.
'Weird, we have already received our post earlier this day...' she quietly said to herself.
She picked up the letter and analyzed it in her hand. The letter had a red stamp pressed on it, embodied with an emblem she has never seen before. Carefully, she opened the letter and read.

HOGWARTS SCHOOL of  WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY
Dear Ms Colette Byrne,We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl by no later than 31st July.Yours sincerely,Minerva McGonagall.

Overcome by worry, she calls out for her husband.
'Martin, could you come over here for a second?'
Martin pressed a kiss on the forehead of his daughter next to him, before standing up and walking over to his wife. His smile faded when he saw the worried expression on his wife's face as she starred down at the letter she was holding.
'What is it?' he asked, his voice filled with fear.
'Look at this.' she says as she hands him the letter. He takes the letter from her and reads it carefully. 'What the hell? Witchcraft and Wizardry? And Colette has been... accepted? When did you apply her for this?'
'I didn't! I don't know what this means. Could it be a joke?''I'm not sure, what if it's real?'
'It can't be real! Magic does not exist.'
Colette's parents have done a great job of ignoring any signs of magic abilities she was showing. When she made a toy levitate for a short time, they blamed it on the wind. Of course they wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it could be magic. Given that are muggles through and through, but Colette isn't. Eloise looked at Martin in shock as he didn't respond to her.
'So what are you telling me then? That you think our daughter is like... like a witch?'
Colette has now left the couch as well, walking to where her parents were standing. She looked confused at the letter they were holding. She could only read the back of it that said
'To Ms Colette Byrne.'
'Mom, Dad? What's going on? What is that letter?'
She was standing a few meters away from them, they still stood frozen at the letterbox.Suddenly, their door broke down. 'Run!' her father yelled.
As a few men in black cloaks forcefully entered the house, Eloise Byrne threw herself in front of her husband, before a green streak of light hit her in the middle of the chest.
She was dead.
Colette started running to her room at the other side of the house. As she turned to close the door, she saw the same thing happening to her father, before his body fell to the floor next to her mothers. She locked the door behind her. Anxiously she looked around her room, trying to find the best spot to hide. But there wasn't much time as steps came closer. She slipped under her bed, before the door was opened. The men in cloaks wore masks, silver masks that looked like skulls, it was all the more creepy. She closed her eyes, hoping they wouldn't find her as they were about to enter the room. Unexpectedly, someone else entered the house. A man. She couldn't make out much of him from under the bed but they seemed to be scared of him. All she could see that green and red light fought each other. Her sight became blurry as she started to cry. Not clearly seeing what just happened, she noticed that the lights are gone. Looking the her side, she noticed someone standing next to the bed, turned in her direction. She moved as far away from him as she could, but made sure not to leave the shelter of her bed.
'Colette?' he started.
How did he know her name?
He lowered himself to kneel beside the bed, looking directly at that frightened little girl. Her piercing green eyes were watery and her long dirty blonde her a total mess.
'It's alright, you're safe.'
She quickly noticed that he wasn't dressed in black, more like her parents when they would come home from the office.
'My name is Albus Dumbledore, I'm headmaster at Hogwarts.'
He noticed her hesitation.
'You don't have to be scared, I'm here to help you.'
She didn't know what else to do, other then crawl away from under the bed. She left her hiding space. A few others have entered her house, to carry away the bodies. The little girl held herself silent, still. It was a wonder she was still alive. When Dumbledore and his people have heard that death eaters have attacked a muggle home in Ireland, they thought they'd be too late. They followed the Hogwarts letter to a muggle town and found it a good opportunity to get rid of a muggleborn witch. Dumbledores mind was struggling to think of what to do with her. He carefully came closer to her and took her by the hand to lead her outside the house.
'How do you know my name?' she finally found the courage to ask.
'I know every witches name.' he answered with a warming smile.
'Wi- What?'
'Witch, you're a witch.'
'What happened to my parents?' demand filling her voice at the question.
'I'm sorry, they didn't survive.'
Her eyes were dry from crying already, but too that she started sobbing. Dumbledore tried comforting her, padding her shoulders. He analyzes her. There was someone she reminded him of, someone she looked like. He knew what to do now, as he remembered who.
'Hold onto my hand tightly. We're going to visit some friends, I think they can help you.' he stretched out his hand to her.
She wasn't sure if she should take it, but felt like she had no choice. Shortly after she obeyed his command, she suddenly felt as if she was ridding a roller-coster before they stood in front of a door she has never seen before.
'What was that?'
'Teleportation, you'll learn it soon enough at Hogwarts.' he said as he knocked on the door.
A woman her mothers age opened the door.
'Albus, I didn't expect your visit.' her gaze suddenly turning to worry as she spotted Colette.
'Hope, this is Colette. Colette, this is Hope Lupin, an incredibly kind witch. Can I come in? I have a very important favor to ask.'
Hope nodded and opened the door wide enough for both of them to get in. They followed her to the kitchen and living room where her husband and son were standing.
'Remus this is... uh Colette. How about you two go up to your room until we're finished talking to Professor Dumbledore?' she ask kindly. Remus accepted his mothers wishes and lead Colette up to his room. When they were gone, the three adults sat down.
'What happened, Albus?' Lyall Lupin, her husband, asked.
'There was a death eater attack on a muggle family. Her family. They followed her Hogwarts letter being delivered to a muggle village and thought it'd be easy to attack them. We came as quick as we could, but we were too late. Her parents have been murdered already. She however, survived.'
'Oh no, this is horrible. Poor child. What can we do?' Hope herself was a muggleborn witch. The devastation in her tone filled the room.
'I know that you are a busy family, and I wouldn't ask you this if I had another choice... Colette, she needs a family. Remus and her look alike and they're only one year apart in age. If you could adopt her, she could hide under the name "Lupin" and grow up a normal.'
'Albus, you know of Remus's condition. She wouldn't grow up normal here, are you sure that we would be the best family for this?' Lyall objected.
'I'm sure, there is no better family she could grow up with. And I think these two will get along well.' Albus assures them. Lyall and Hope whisper to each other, nothing Albus could hear. But he didn't need to, he knew the answer.
'So we're really doing this?' Hope asks Lyall.
'We'll adopt her.'

In the meanwhile, Remus and Colette were sitting in his room. Remus tried to lose the tension by talking a lot about nothing, really, but he could sense that there was something up with her. Something she could snap out of. Their heads turned up as they hear their names calling from downstairs. They walked down the stairs and met the adults looking at them. Remus got pulled aside by his parents as they'll try to explain to him, that he now had a little sister. Dumbledore walked to Colette, kneeing before her on the stairs.
'I've gotta go now. The Lupins have agreed to adopt you, they're your family now.'
Colette gazed him down in fear as he tried to explain. He sighed, trying not be harsh explaining to her. 'Listen, in our world there are things called a blood status. You are a muggleborn. But since the Lupins are halfbloods, you will say you're one aswell.
For your own safety.
You are Colette Lupin now.'
