A few weeks have passed since the faithful day Colette's parents died. The Lupins have been very kind to her, taking her in and treating her like family. Remus and her shared his room, or what used to be his and in now theirs. A second bed was placed next to his window, which belonged to Colette, facing the door and standing next to it, Remus's bed.
Colette has been awfully quiet at the beginning, she was still struggling to deal with what has happened, what she witnessed and what she was. This day was a sunny one, Colette has spend it sitting in the garden. Remus appeared behind her, knocking on the garden door to get her attention.
'Mind if I join you?' he asked.
'No, go ahead.' she gestured with her head to the seat next to her.
He joined her, sitting down to where she had gestured. 'What were you thinking about?'
For only having been siblings since a few weeks, these two grew quickly into their roles as brother and sister. Remus has been very careful with her. She liked that about him, how he was so quiet and caring. Around him she felt comfortable, safe even. Something she hasn't felt like a while that felt like forever. Her adoptive parents explained everything about Hogwarts and Witchcraft to her, yet she feels out of touch with it.
'The casual, everything.'
'Are you exited to go to Hogwarts?'
'I... no. I don't feel like anything that has happened the past month is real. I'm not... I'm not a witch. I'm nothing but a normal human.'
At that, Remus jumps up and holds out his wand.
'Get up, I'm gonna teach you a spell.' he said to her, a smile tugging at his lips.
'Remus, I can't-'
'Yes you can, you are a witch and I'm gonna show you how great this is.'
She heavily and unmotivated lifts off the chair and takes over her brothers wand. She stands as she watches him pacing in front of her, explaining the spell.
'I'm gonna teach you one of my favorite spells. Flipendo.' he shows her the wand movement. He moves behind her, lifting her arm up to the chosen target.
'See this vase standing on the table over there? Try to aim at it. It's only a 24 dollar vase. Dad thinks it looks cool, but mom secretly hates it, so we'll do her a favor.'
Colette tries not to laugh and focus.
'Flipendo.' she casts.
A bolt of white light shot out of the wand and hit the vase. You could hear the vase being hit and broken by it, very loudly. Louder than Remus had calculated.
Colette looks up in shock. She did it! And was fun. Remus smiles proudly as he see's his sisters eyes light up in joy for the very first time.
'Incredible! Better no one tries to mess with you, with this kind of blow, you'll beat them all.'
Angry steps appeared from inside the house. Hope was standing in the garden before they even had time to run. She covers her mouth in shock as she sees the broken vase. The siblings looked at her with regret, not moving, unsure if they should say something.
'What have you done?' she says in shock before, to their surprise, she started laughing.
Remus was right, she was glad that the vase was finally gone, beyond repair.
-At dinner a few days later, Colette noticed Remus's change in behavior. He looked down at his plate, having eaten only the meat. He nervously staggered around in his salad.
Ever since Remus has taught her magic, she has been more confident. More happier overall. She came to accept the fact that she was a witch, and started falling in love with magic. In difference to their last conversation about it, Colette was now exited for Hogwarts.
All of this thanks to her big brother.
His behavior has changed from being happy and calm to being stressed and worried. Each day that passed, it got worse. He got worse.
After everything he did for her, it pained her to see him like this.
She watched him, and decided not to say anything, but it was clear that he wasn't fine. At least to her, their parents seemed to ignore it.
It was quiet at the table, different from any other dinner they've had, where no one seemed to stop talking.
Remus drastically stood up, dropped the cutlery carelessly on the plate and went to their room, climbing the stairs with a quick paste.
Colette finished up her plate, before standing up and excusing herself from dinner. She slowly walked the stairs to find their bedroom door standing open.
Remus sat at the windowsill, looking outside as if he was waiting for something. He seemed more tense than before at dinner.
It was late evening. Normally they would chance into their night robes and talk for hours before sleeping. Remus, it seemed, wasn't feeling like talking at all.
Cautiously, she entered the room. She was deeply worried, and she knew he would sense that of her. About a month ago, Remus disappeared at night and suddenly had a scar at the back of his neck. Colette noticed but chose not to bring it up. Maybe it was just a coincidence.
'Hey, are you okay?' Colette asked with her voice that was unable to hide her worry.
'Yeah, I'm fine.' he didn't even turn her direction, but kept staring outside of the window.
She didn't believe him, not even a bit.
'It don't seem like it, you've been acting so stressed the past few days, and now it feels like whatever's going on with you has reached it's prime.'
He stood up and walked past her, bumping into her side. 'Just...leave me be.'
He was starting to walk away, but her next question stopped him.
'Is it because of me? Have I done something? I'm sorry I-' and gone he was.
