"Kacey, please! I can not do this again. I can't spend eight months wondering where you are in the world and if you're okay! Your contract is up. You can be discharged. You promised this was your last tour!" Maggie pleaded with the man in front of her; she was four months pregnant, something she'd just found out last week. Growing up, she always had irregular periods, so when it didn't come for a while, she didn't think anything of it. Beth noticed her easy irritation and snacking, and that's when she suggested a pregnancy test.

Maggie was going to tell Kacey tonight after dinner, but before they could even sit down at the table, he'd bombarded her with the news. "We need the money, okay? It's already done, Maggie ." Kacey looked at her with cold eyes, and at that moment, Maggie didn't recognize the man in front of her.

"No we don't! Kacey, no! I won't do this! I can't!" Maggie yelled desperation laced her voice.

"What are you saying?" Kacey looked at her.

"The moment you get on that plane to take you off to whatever third-world country you go to, I wait and expect some Sargent to show up at the door and tell me you died, and–I can't," Maggie whispered, shaking her head.

"Are you asking me to choose?"Kacey sounded disgusted.

"Yes," Maggie nodded.

Kacey scoffed, shaking his head as he grabbed his keys and coat. "Kacey..." Maggie spoke in disbelief.

"You just need to calm down; you're being dramatic!" Kacey slammed the door behind him.

Four hours, that's how long Maggie had been waiting for Kacey to come back. It was three in the morning when the slight cramp began. It had become almost unbearable within ten minutes, and she couldn't sit up right due to the intense burning sensation in her lower back.
