As I walk into the dining hall at Camp Half-Blood, I can feel the eyes of everyone on me. I know what they're thinking. They're thinking that I'm just a slut, that I got pregnant on purpose. But they don't know the whole story. They don't know how much Luke and I love each other, or how we planned this.
"Hey Tay," Piper says, as she walks over to me. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay," I reply, forcing a smile. "Just a little overwhelmed."
"I can imagine," Piper says. "But you know you can always talk to me, right?"
"Of course," I say. "I know that. It's just... Drew is being such a bitch about all of this."
Drew Tanaka, the daughter of Ares, has always been a bit of a mean girl. But since I've become pregnant, she's taken it to a whole new level. She's been slut-shaming me, calling me all sorts of names. It's hurtful, and it's not fair.
"Just ignore her," Piper says. "She's just jealous because she doesn't have what you have with Luke."
"I know," I say. "But it's still hard. I just wish people would understand."
Just then, Luke walks into the dining hall. He sees me and makes his way over to me.
"Hey beautiful," he says, wrapping his arms around me. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay," I say, leaning into him. "Just a little overwhelmed."
"I know," Luke says. "But I'm here for you. I'll always be here for you."
"I know," I say, smiling up at him. "I love you."
"I love you too," Luke says, kissing the top of my head.
We sit down to eat, and I can feel the eyes of everyone on us. I know they're wondering how I could be so happy, so in love, when I'm pregnant and unmarried. But they don't understand. They don't understand that Luke and I are meant to be together. They don't understand that this baby is a blessing, not a curse.
As we finish eating, Drew walks over to our table.
"Well, well, well," she says, looking at me with a sneer. "Looks like someone is getting fat."
"Drew, stop it," Piper says, standing up. "That's not necessary."
"Oh, I'm sorry," Drew says, rolling her eyes. "I forgot. Taylor is a goddess. She's above all of us mere mortals."
"That's not what I meant," Piper says, crossing her arms. "But you don't have to be so mean about it."
"I'm just saying," Drew says, looking at me. "You're a disgrace. A goddess, pregnant and unmarried. You're setting a bad example for the rest of us."
"I'm not trying to set an example," I say, standing up. "I'm just living my life."
"By getting pregnant at 18?" Drew says, laughing. "Yeah, that's really smart."
"It was a mistake," I say, my voice shaking. "But it's my mistake to make. And Luke and I are going to raise this baby together. We're going to be a family."
"A family?" Drew says, laughing again. "You and Luke? Please. He's only with you because you're a goddess. He'll leave you as soon as the baby is born."
"That's not true," I say, tears welling up in my eyes. "Luke loves me. He's not going anywhere."
"We'll see about that," Drew says, smirking. "I give it six months before he's gone."
"You don't know what you're talking about," I say, my voice rising. "You don't know anything about love."
"Oh, I know about love," Drew says, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "I've been in love before. But it didn't work out. Because love is hard. It's messy. And it's not always pretty."
"I know that," I say, wiping away tears. "But Luke and I are willing to work through whatever comes our way. We're in this together."
"Well, I hope it works out for you," Drew says, rolling her eyes. "But don't say I didn't warn you."
She walks away, leaving me standing there, tears streaming down my face.
"Don't listen to her, Tay," Piper says, wrapping her arms around me. "She's just jealous."
"I know," I say, sniffing. "But it still hurts."
"I know it does," Luke says, coming over to us. "But we'll get through it. Together."
He wraps his arms around me, and I lean into him, feeling his warmth and love surrounding me. I know that Drew is wrong. I know that Luke and I are meant to be together. And I know that our baby is a blessing, not a curse. I just have to keep reminding myself of that, no matter what anyone else says.
As we walk back to our cabin, I can't help but think about the future. I don't know what it holds, but I know that Luke and I will face it together. And I know that our love will be strong enough to get us through anything. I just have to believe in us, and in our love. And I do. I really do.
