I glared at him mockingly.

Micah, do you remember what I said when I called you?

I was begging for your help!

Why didn't you save me?!

Who are you trying to impress with this act now?

"Impossible!" Zoey immediately objected. "There must be a reason my sister was targeted. If it was for money, her wedding dress alone is worth a million dollars, with real diamonds sewn into it. Why wouldn't the killer just take the dress?"

"And if it was a crime of passion," she continued, "the killer would have destroyed the blood-stained dress, not thrown it in the water. It doesn't make sense for someone to kill her, then go through the trouble of removing the dress before disposing of the body. It's illogical."

"Good point," Micah's eyes lit up. "Did you find any other clues at the scene? Like her phone, shoes, or other personal items? What about the murder weapon or blood evidence?"

"Nothing so far," the officer replied.

Zoey concluded, "I bet my sister deliberately took off her dress, stabbed it, splashed some of her own blood on it, and threw it in the water to create a scene."

"That girl is completely out of control," chimed in my mother, who had just arrived with the rest of myfamily after being called in for questioning. "Her little attention-seeking tricks were bad enough before, but now she's dragging the police into it?"

As soon as myfamily arrived – my parents and older brother – they all sang the same tune.

Officer Hawkinsinterrupted, "Mrs. Gomez, please try to stay calm."

"Calm? Officer, you look old enough to be married with kids. If your daughter, who you raised with love and care, turned out to be an ungrateful brat who cruelly hurts her own family, could you stay calm?"

My older brother glanced at his watch. "Officer, we're very busy. We came here to tell you not to waste our time with a child's game of make-believe."

I stood there, frozen, my heart aching. Looking at my parents and brother who had loved me for so many years, their faces unchanged, why did they suddenly seem so unfamiliar? What terrible thing had I done to make them despise me this much?

All the officers were stunned. One of them said, "But she's your family. She's missing – maybe suicide, maybe murder. Aren't you worried at all?"

"I know my daughter," my mother snapped. "She's too shamelessto even have any self-respect, let alone commit suicide. And who would dare harm Mrs. Shark? Don't waste police resources – that girl is probably hiding somewhere, laughing at all of this."

"I have a meeting to attend. I'm leaving," my brother announced.

My family left as quickly as they came. I even heard my mother say, "Honestly, I didn't even finish getting my nails done. What a waste of time, calling us here for this nonsense."

"Mom, where did you get your nails done? They look amazing," Zoey chimed in.

"I'll take you there later, and we'll get facials too. If only your sister were as obedient as you, I wouldn't have gotten two more wrinkles from all the stress she's caused me."

Soon, almost everyone had left except for Micah, who hadn't said a word.

"Mr. Shark," an officer began, "did your wifecontact you before she disappeared? We heard you left her at the altar yesterday. She might have been devastated enough to... If you know anything that could help..."

That set Micah off. It was clear nothing had happened, yet the officer's words made it sound like he had driven her to her death. He slammed his hand on the table and stood up. "Officer, you haven't found a body or a crime scene. How can you be so sure she's dead?"

"She's your wife!" the officer exclaimed.

Micah stood up, irritated, and began to leave. "Well, when you find a body, then you can start your investigation!"
