The morning sun cast a dull glow over the airfield as workers loaded crates of weapons and supplies into the cargo hold of the sleek fighter plane. There was an eerie calm that belied the tension simmering beneath the surface. Everyone was moving quickly but quietly, the sense of impending danger growing stronger with every minute.
Mikele stood near the plane, overseeing the preparations, his sharp eyes scanning the workers as they methodically packed the cargo. Hrithik approached him, his face still tight from the events of the previous night. He hadn't slept much, none of them had.
Mikele glanced at Hrithik, sensing his unease. “Vayne and Henry will meet us at the Gold Vault,” Mikele said quietly, almost as if it was just another detail in a long list of logistics.
Hrithik nodded. “Good. We’ll need them.”
Samantha approached from behind, her expression serious. “Everything’s loaded,” she said. “Weapons, rations, comms—feels like we’re prepping for a war.”
“Feels like?” Mikele smirked, but there was no humor in his eyes. “It is a war, Sam.”
Just then, the sound of a car speeding toward them made everyone turn. Sid’s car screeched to a halt near the plane, and the door flew open. Sid got out quickly, followed by Kiara, who moved with quiet urgency. Sid immediately rushed around to help Deepika, who was still limping, favoring her injured leg.
As they approached, Samantha, Mikele, and Hrithik all exchanged glances. Sid, slightly out of breath, supported Deepika as they walked toward the group.
Hrithik gave a small nod. “Glad you made it.”
Sid grimaced. “Wasn’t sure we would. You guys make a habit of being chased by killers or is that just my luck?”
Deepika shot him a look. “You’ll get used to it.”
Mikele folded his arms, watching them approach. "We’ve got everything ready. It’s time to move."
But suddenly, Samantha tensed. Her gaze locked onto a shadowy figure moving in the distance. Without hesitation, she drew her gun, the barrel aimed squarely at the approaching figure.
“Stop!” Samantha shouted, her voice sharp, commanding.
Everyone flinched, instinctively stepping back. Sid felt his heart race as he supported Deepika, unsure of what was happening. Kiara’s legs trembled as she recognized the figure moving toward them. She stumbled back, her breath caught in her throat.
“Samantha, wait,” Mikele warned, raising his hand. “Stop.”
Samantha didn’t lower her gun, but she paused, glancing back at Mikele. That’s when she saw it. Red sniper laser dots covered everyone, even her. One on her chest, another on her forehead.
They were surrounded.
The figure in the distance walked closer, his movements slow and deliberate. He clapped his hands, a mocking grin spreading across his face as he approached. He was tall, dressed in black tactical gear, his face obscured by a mask.
