A few days later:
The sun has already set a few hours ago, which is the best time for me to get up. I crawl out of my home and stretch outside properly. I also can't suppress a yawn.
I keep my ears stiff and look for food. Rabbits at best, but mice do it too. I sniff around with my nose, hoping to pick up a scent. Just when I thought I heard footsteps from a small animal, a loud, pained scream comes from the edge of the forest.
It was a human. My instinct tells me to ignore him. Then why does my conscience say otherwise?
Careful to be as quiet as possible, I trot to the edge of the forest. As soon as I smell blood, I slow down and stop behind a tree. In front of me is a grown man who was tied to a tree just like the corpse from a few days ago.
He has black hair and wears... What is that? Are these glasses like that?
The man is still conscious but is being strangled by something large. The tied up man tries to scream for help, but no words leave his throat.
I carefully step closer to get a better look. The next moment the murderer slits his throat with a knife. Blood splatters everywhere and immediately afterwards his head is bashed in with a rod. It makes a dull noise and the victim immediately loses consciousness. The next moment I can no longer hear his pulse.
He's dead.
The murderer lets go of him and puts the murder weapons used in a sack. Whatever the murderer is, he or she is not human. The creature is about to leave but stops and seems to whimper. Me?
Suddenly the murderer turns around and looks me coldly in the eyes. I freeze. I've never seen anything like it. The murderer has white skin that looks burnt. The eyes are not empty and there is not a hair on the head.
Instinctively I take a few steps back until I finally run into the forest. Whatever that was, it scared the hell out of me. I quickly run to my burrow, listen to see if this thing isn't following me anyway, and crawl back to my home.
I sit quietly in the building for an hour and listen to the surroundings. This thing doesn't seem to have followed me, but I still don't dare go out.
It's now light outside again and I'm slowly starting to dare to go out again. I thought about it all night and finally made a decision. I still have the smell of that thing in my nose, which is why I want to track it down.
It can kill me. It's dangerous, but something inside me says I have to do it.
First I go hunting because I haven't eaten in too long. And after a short while I found some berries and two mice, which I then ate.
I walk up and down in the forest to sniff out a trail. I walk around for hours but can't find any trace. A bad thought comes to mind.
What if this thing lives in the city?
