"whatever you want, whatever you say..."

(this is a repost- i wrote this years ago but I'm reposting it bc I love it)

Deep breaths. Deep. Breaths.

My eyes were shut against the piercing gusts of wind, letting my eyelids take the beating instead. It was beautiful today. Or, at least, it might have been, if mother nature had decided to be a little more gentle with her breathing. I pressed my back against the weeping willow's trunk, sighing as the vine-like leaves spun around me. I chanced to crack my eyes so as to watch the tree sway and twist and turn in the hostile gale. A smile graced my lips. It was beautiful.

No one ever came here besides me. It's why I loved it so much. It soothed my aching body after a long day at work and soaked my buzzing brain in the bliss of solitude.

A sudden slice of stinging wetness brushed my upper cheek as I gazed at the gray blotches in the baby blue sky. Another dashed against my nose, another my chin before they all fell at once upon me and the ground around me.

Pulling my worn-out coat tighter as I stood, I made for the edge of the woods behind my house. As I stumbled into the trees, I noticed a soft noise through the downpour. I paused, waiting to see if it would come again. It did- a pitiful whimper was coming from just beyond the treeline. I followed it as best I could, hoping I wouldn't stumble across any unwelcoming critters' homes. I rounded a curve in the brush and saw the defeated face of a fluffy corgi staring longingly at the open forest. I chuckled as I realized its behind was stuck in a thicket of brush.

"Hey, buddy," I greeted, making the poor creature jump, "You need help, huh? I got you."

It pawed the ground in front of it excitedly, its sad ears popping up when alerted to my presence. I pushed aside the sharpest twigs and nudged its fuzzy butt over the thorns. It felt forward with a sloppy-sounding thud, sliding a little in the mud. I giggled, helping it up.

"Now... what's your name?" The collar mingled as I examined it, "Mongryong! Hey buddy. Let's get you all cleaned up, yeah? And then I'll call your owner."

The dog wasn't all that big, but he was a solid little thing, so carrying him through a half-mile of dense brush was a little exhausting. When I finally did reach my parents' backyard, the rain had slowed to a fine drizzle, barely noticeable unless you stayed very still.

I made quick work of cleaning the rolly polly pup up, and he looked beautiful. I petted him for a while, watching as the rain clouds lost their job and the sun replaced them.

Mongryong woofed at a butterfly nearby. I grinned. Then I pulled my phone out and popped the number from the collar into it. After a few rings, a voice appeared on the other end.

"Hello? Who is this?"

"Hello, is this Mongryong's owner?"

"Yes, who is this?"

I smiled. "My name is Jaehee, I found your dog in the woods by my house. Would you like to pick him up somewhere?"

"Yes please!" The man answered immediately, sounding relieved and excited at the same time.

"Okay, meet me at Will-O-Winds, it's by the public park near the White Haven development. Let's say..." I glanced at my watch. "3:30. Don't be late!"

"Oh, okay!" He seemed taken aback by my bluntness and lack of hesitation.

My smile grew a little wider. "See you,"
