DOC: Your mother told me you don't like many animals. Is that true?
EVE: [no response]
DOC: Do you have a favorite animal?
EVE: [no response]
DOC: You drew a lovely picture of an empty bird's nest. Do you like birds?
EVE: Ugh! You're so annoying today. No one cares about any of that crap.
DOC: I do, Evelyn. I care because I want to get to know you. You still want me to get to know you, don't you? [pause] I want to hear what you're thinking about. I want to know how you're feeling.
EVE: None of that hoggywash will help you know me... [rustling] Knowing whether I pushed the stupid ratty nest over and rolled each one of them out and forced open their little yaps, helps you know me. [pause] I don't see how what I feel and think about birds matters. [silence, 00:00:51]
DOC: Is that what happened?
EVE: [no response]
DOC: Did something like that happen to you, once?
EVE: What do you think, doctor psychic-analysis?
DOC: I don't know because you haven't told me anything about that.
EVE: [huffs] For your information, I didn't even come close to touching them. [sighs] It's like, um, duh! Babies shouldn't be so eager to spread their wings. Just like how Mother always says, [mimics mother] "Walk before you run!" [pause] The baby birds must have fallen trying to fly too early.
DOC: So which is it, did they try to fly too early, or did the nest fall over?
EVE: [no response]
DOC: Your mother already told me what happened. She said that you called to Eric for help after finding the nest on the ground, and that putting the hatchlings back inside the nest was your idea. "Mercy killing" them after saving them was your idea, too. Eric was following your instructions.
EVE: [hesitates] Yah. [pause] Whatever... [sniffs] That's her version.
DOC: I'd like to hear your side of the story.
EVE: She's the adult. What she says is G-O-S-P-E-L. Gospel. [mimics Mother] "Go spell gospel, girl!"
DOC: Only what you say happened matters here.
EVE: [rustling] [silence, 00:01:11] [sighs] God, you're so friggin' annoying. I found the nest after it fell, ok?
DOC: Did you see what made it fall?
EVE: Yes...
DOC: What was it?
EVE: The wind.
DOC: Describe the wind to me.
EVE: [no response]
DOC: What did it look like?
EVE: Um, hello! Earth to doctor... [giggles] It was I-N-V-I-Z-I-B-L-E...
DOC: So you didn't see the wind.
EVE: I already told you I saw her.
DOC: Who did you see, Evelyn?
EVE: [sighs] [rustling]
DOC: Who is the wind?
EVE: Mother always says God does his best work through his creations, which are actually manifestations of his divine power, so, like, by telling Mother Nature to dispatch the family of robins, God confirmed they weren't ever meant to survive...
