Strengthening Bonds
Over the weekend, Eric and I spent more time together, watching movies and sharing our favorite songs. I was surprised at how easily our conversations flowed, the laughter coming effortlessly. Each moment we spent together felt like building blocks, creating a foundation of trust and understanding.
On Saturday, as we sat on my couch watching an old classic, Eric turned to me, his expression thoughtful. "I'm really glad we met, you know? I don't think I could have made it through high school without friends like you."
"Really? I could say the same," I replied, my heart swelling at his sincerity. "I never expected someone like you to be so... supportive."
He chuckled softly, running a hand through his hair. "Supportive is my middle name."
As the movie played on, I felt a growing connection between us, something deeper than friendship. It felt like we were both healing in our own ways—him from whatever troubles lurked behind his smile, and me from the pain of betrayal and loneliness.
"Do you ever think about what comes next?" he asked suddenly, his voice serious.
"What do you mean?" I replied, turning to face him fully.
"After high school, I mean. Do you have a plan?"
I took a breath, considering my answer. "I want to go to art school, but I'm scared. What if I don't get in? What if it doesn't work out?"
He reached over and took my hand, the warmth of his grip grounding me. "What if you do get in? What if it changes everything for the better? You have to take that leap, Jane. You can't let fear hold you back."
His gaze was unwavering, and I felt something shift within me. It was as if he could see through my doubts, peeling away the layers of self-criticism and fear.
"I'll try," I said finally, squeezing his hand.
"That's all I ask," he replied, a smile spreading across his face.
