The Rumors Resurface

As spring settled in, Jane and Eric's relationship blossomed. They spent more time together, deepening their bond through shared experiences and adventures. However, just when everything seemed perfect, the whispers began again.

It started subtly, a few stray comments from classmates as they passed through the hallways. Jane tried to ignore them, but the rumors grew louder. Trisha, unable to bear Jane's newfound happiness, had resorted to spreading lies once more. This time, it was about Jane and Eric's relationship, suggesting that they were only dating for attention, that it was all a façade.

Jane felt a knot tighten in her stomach as she overheard snippets of conversation while waiting for her locker to open. "They're just a joke," one girl said. "I can't believe he's with her."

She tried to brush it off, but the weight of the words felt heavy. That evening, as she scrolled through her social media, she stumbled upon a post that made her heart drop: a photo of her and Eric at the ice cream parlor, captioned with a mocking comment from one of Trisha's friends.

Jane felt the familiar sting of betrayal wash over her. When Eric arrived for their usual walk, she forced a smile, but it was clear that something was bothering her.

"Hey, you okay?" Eric asked, concern etched on his face.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Jane replied, though she knew it wasn't true. She didn't want to burden him with her worries, but it was hard to keep the truth hidden.

"Jane," he said gently, tilting her chin up to meet his gaze. "I can tell when something's off. Just tell me what's going on."

Taking a deep breath, she finally admitted, "It's the rumors again. Trisha is saying things about us, and I just... I don't want it to affect us."

Eric's expression darkened. "That's ridiculous. You know what we have is real, right?"

"I do," Jane said, her voice trembling. "But it just hurts. I thought we were past all this."

"We'll get through it," he assured her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Let's not give them the power to ruin what we have."

As they walked in silence, Jane felt comforted by his presence. They would face this together.
