Lana stood over Sarah's lifeless body, her chest rising and falling with each ragged breath. The forest was eerily silent now, the oppressive weight that had once hung over it for so long seeming to lift. She glanced down at the well, at the dark, yawning abyss below. It was here that Sarah had met her end.But the forest wasn't finished.
As Lana turned to leave, she felt it again, a soft whisper, faint but distinct. It wasn't coming from the trees this time. It was coming from the well.
She hesitated, the hair on the back of her neck standing on end. Slowly, she stepped closer to the well, peering down into the darkness. The whisper grew louder, clearer, until she could make out the words.
''Come home, Lana.''
Her other's voice.
Tears welled in Lana's eyes, but she took a step back. The whispers weren't real. They couldn't be real.
With a final glance at the well, Lana turned and walked away, the forest watching her retreat. The whispers followed her, softer now, more distant, but they would never truly fade.
As she emerged from the woods, Hollow Creek lay silent before her. She knew she could never escape the past entirely, but she had survived. And in the end, that was all that mattered.
But as Lana drove away from Hollow Creek for the last time, the wind carried one final whisper through the trees.
A promise.
''I'll be waiting.''
