One of the things I loved about Seyra was how much she was willing to do everything for me. Being my best friend, she'd probably walk through the Sahara desert in a sweater if I asked her to. And now we were both sitting, huddled up in our hoodies on the iconic bench at 2:23 AM.
We call it the 'iconic bench' because of all of the memories we'd made in this park, on this exact bench. Two weeks after we first met, when we were about 7, I had taken her here and we claimed this bench as ours. We never stopped coming to it after that.
I decided to just sit and enjoy the breeze while Seyra's eyes were glued to her phone, making all sorts of searches in an attempt to find Alex and Lily's missing cases. No results showed. She refuses to resort to Bing.
I was scribbling in the corner of my notepad, reading over the tips we had right now.
So far, all we have is that they were last seen at Hollow Deeps Woods on February 12th to investigate spirits and their bodies were found on April 6th, from Mr. Bernes, and that was also the day that the police so-called 'threatened' their parents to keep quiet.
So basically, so far all we have is absolutely nothing.
Seyra huffed in frustration. "None of these searches are working." She whined, but I wasn't paying attention, because of a silly idea that popped into my head.
"Hey, Sey?" I questioned, turning my head to look at Seyra's half-shadowed face. "What?"
"Spring break is soon, right?" I asked. She waited a moment before responding. "Yes...?" She confirmed, her voice laced with skepticism.
"And you like ghost-hunting, right?" I asked, now a small smile appearing on my face. "Hayley." She spoke in a warning tone. "What are you thinking?"
"What if we go there ourselves? Like a camping trip, but make it investigating." I suggested "And... Ghost-hunting, I guess..?" I said the last part with obvious hesitation. Seyra's lips shifted into a sly smirk.
"I knew some part of you believed in ghosts!" She gave my shoulder a playful shove before I swatted her hand away.
"I'm not saying I'm a believer now, I still think it's bullshit, but with their death, the police covering it up, both of their causes of death being quote unquote, 'natural causes'," I emphasized with air quotes. "I just don't... get it." I sighed.
"That's the thing with the paranormal world." She patted me on the back. "You don't believe, you think about it a little, you have an experience, you become a believer forever. You're on stage two, thinking about it a little."
I ignored that comment, moving on. "So, are you going to come with me to the forest or am I going alone? AlsopleasecomebecauseIknownothingaboutghostsandImscared." I murmured.
Seyra gave a whole-hearted laugh. "Sure. I'll arrange a group and take bring all of my equipment."
"Do we need a group?" I muttered.
"Yes, otherwise ghost-hunting won't be fun." She muttered back.
"Stop saying 'ghost-hunting.' It's a camping trip." I scoffed.
"Ghost-hunting."
"Bitch." I smacked her on the back and we both broke out into laughter.
Neither of us could sleep, so until dawn, we chatted and laughed until our lungs hurt and the sun was rising. I know I made a quick decision when I suggested visiting a place where two women were found dead, but it was a risk, and I was going to be with my best friend.
Life is all about risks and spending it with the people you love. So as long as Sey is with me, I'd gladly enjoy any obstacle that we might encounter in the forest.
