Avery POV.

A month had passed since the initial frenzy surrounding my "retirement scandal" had died down. People were still curious about my abrupt departure from the music industry, but the announcement of my new contract as a composer for StartTech Entertainment had finally put the issue to rest.

"Err!...Can you tune down that silly music?" I said, my voice laced with annoyance. Sofia and Freya had been playing the same song on repeat, driving me crazy.

I was trying to study for an upcoming quiz, but they were in my dorm, making it impossible to concentrate. The song itself was actually quite nice, but I'd had enough! I'd been hearing it for weeks, not just from them, but everywhere on campus.

"Aren't you sick of it?" I exclaimed, my frustration growing. I slammed my pen down on the desk, giving them a stern look.

Sofia rolled her eyes, a smirk playing on her lips.  "Why do you hate this song? This is clearly a very good song. Don't you like it? Besides, it's the top tear list of Spotify hit songs. Unless you're jealous about it," she teased.

I threw a pillow at her, aiming for the spot where she and Freya were sprawled out on my bed.  "Woahh easy bitch!" she exclaimed, dodging my throw with ease.

"Can you both childish stop fighting," Freya intervened, but we both just glared at her.  She didn't even flinch.  Brave.

I rolled my eyes and looked back at my phone. I opened Spotify, and sure enough, the song was everywhere.  Not just the song, but the entire album.

"Who the hell is Rykent Star?" I asked, turning to them, my curiosity piqued.

They both shrugged. "Donno. He's very popular on all music platforms because of his great compositions and angelic husky voice. Yet no one knows him, he's a mystery guy with no face, and every die hard fan is dying to meet him in person," Freya explained.

"Why did you ask? Jealous of his success?" Sofia teased, and I just rolled my eyes, returning my attention to my phone.

What was so good about his songs? I wondered why people were obsessed with them.

A week had passed, and Rykent Star's songs were still inescapable. They were playing randomly in the cafeteria, the students jamming along.  What was wrong with people? They were exaggerating.

I understood the appeal of his music. His lyrics were catchy, and his voice was smooth and husky.  But hearing his songs on repeat for weeks, everywhere I went, was starting to drive me crazy.

I sighed heavily. I admitted, his songs were good, mostly pop. But there were two songs that I actually liked, even though I hated to admit it. He was really good at composing lyrics that could capture thousands of hearts. I just found it irritating to hear his songs everywhere on campus, as if he owned the place.

Or did he?

"Hell!" I exclaimed, startled as I bumped into someone. My uniform was ruined again. Why was I always so unlucky?

I looked up to see who had collided with me, my tray of spaghetti now splattered across my uniform. "Gosh! I am so, so sorry Avery," she said, panicking, digging through her bag.

But as she was scrambling, I was stunned to realize who was standing in front of me. It was Ashkent's girlfriend, the engineering student.

Wow! Just wow! How unlucky could I be? First, I ran into Ashkent's ex-girlfriend, and now his current girlfriend? What were the odds? Was someone playing a prank on me?

"God! I'm really sorry Ave, here," she said, offering me a plain white shirt and a black skirt.  Seriously?

"It's fine," I said nonchalantly, trying to clean the spaghetti off my uniform.  Gosh! You got to be kidding me!

"No Ave, you need to change your clothes. Please, accept it," she insisted, her voice filled with concern.

I wanted to be a bitch and roll my eyes at her.  She was too much! She seemed nice, but why so overbearing? Ave? We weren't close, were we?

"Fine," I said, grabbing the clothes.

"I'll give it back after I wash it," I said, turning to walk away, but she stopped me.

"No, no. No need for that. You can have it," she said, her voice urgent. I stopped in my tracks, turning back to face her.

"What do you mean?" I asked, my voice laced with annoyance, though I tried to keep it neutral.

"I meant it. You can have it. No need to give it back to me. It's a spare of my clothes, I can buy more if I really want to. No worries, it's just a piece of clothes," she said nonchalantly.  She sounded like a spoiled brat who spent money carelessly, as if it meant nothing. What an ungrateful brat.

"You're a brat too," my inner voice argued.  What the hell!

Yeah, I was a brat, but at least I knew how to spend wisely, unlike her.

"Well, that's when Ashkent scolded you not to spend so much money on useless stuff and instead started to do some great things by helping those people who badly need your help. And that's when you start to grow up and change your perspective towards it," my inner voice chimed in again.

I rolled my eyes, heading to the bathroom. Why did I find it so hard to communicate with Ashkent's girlfriends?

Damn! Why was every girl linked to him so nice, not a bitch like me?  Sure, he was a good guy, and he deserved a good woman, but how could I compete with them? I mean, what did I have?

"You're just a friend, according to him," my inner voice whispered.

I sighed, staring at myself in the mirror. I had just changed into the white shirt and black skirt Ashkent's girlfriend had given me.

Gosh! I wanted to be mad at her for some unknown reason, but I knew it wasn't fair. She had spilled her food on me by accident, and I wasn't paying attention either. She had apologized, so I had no reason to be angry. And besides, I could tell she had a good heart. Not a bitch one like me.

I sighed again. How could I make a move when I knew he deserved better than someone like me, someone who had broken his heart once?

That girl might be a little spoiled, but she was way better than me. I couldn't find anything to hate about her. Ashkent was clearly happy with her. I had seen them together numerous times, and they looked like a happy couple, holding hands. Gross.

I groaned in frustration, splashing cold water on my face. I needed to clear my head.

Before, after he finally let go of his ex-girlfriend, I thought I had a chance to win him back. But then, I found him with a new girl. Seriously? How could he move on so easily? It annoyed me so much!

He wasn't a player, because he wasn't flirting with every girl who crossed his path. But the fact that he could move on so quickly and like someone new was freaking me out.

I mean, what if he finally looked back and asked me to be his girlfriend again? What if we got together, and then we broke up? Would he forget me easily, like his other exes, and just move on to the next one? It made me furious!

"Dream on, bitch. As if Ashkent is stupid enough to ask you out again. You already turned him down before, what makes you think he's stupid enough to ask you again? For what? To break his heart again? No thanks," my inner voice interrupted, and I felt like pulling my hair out.

"What the hell is wrong with me?!" I exclaimed, glaring at my reflection in the mirror.  Shit!

What was wrong with me?

I was starting to get worried about my own mental state.
