Evelyn's POV
I was sitting on the same mountain Ava took me a night ago, where I found out what my element was. We're calling it the Crystal Mountain after the Crystal Cave.

I had fallen asleep on the mountain last night, as planned. I wanted to fall asleep as close to the stars as possible to create a bond with my element or something.

I was watching the sun come up over the trees, the same trees that Lynn and I ventured through to meet Ava and Noah.

If I'm honest, it was terrifying. I had just learned how to use a gun, and I was scared about those girls who I haven't seen yet.

I'm still scared they're going to show up someday, at any time, and we wouldn't know what to do. But I know Lynn knows how to use a gun, and Braelyn probably does too.

Ava and Noah have been here longer than Lynn so they probably do as well. I have no idea about Kenzie and the rest.

Just when the sun was fully over the trees, I looked down to see Aria come out of the castle. The palms of her hands were glowing orange, her magic.

I was confused for a moment, until I remembered that she was the element of the sun. For certain reasons, I wanted to ask her about it. If she had the element of something that was in space, it might lead me with a clue to what my element does.

I stood up from the ground and used my magic to open my wings. I decided to fly back to the castle and ask her about it.

I landed on the snowy ground and closed my wings. She must've heard me landing because she turned around quick.

"Hey, Aria, right?" I asked. I already knew her name but I was trying to make small talk.

She looked like she forced herself to plant a smile on her face, "that's me."

"I noticed your magic when I was on the mountain, and I know you're the element of the sun, so I was wondering what your element does. Like do you control the sun or?"

She laughed a little, but it was gentle. "Kind of."

She paused for a moment, looking at the sun. "It was my passion back on Earth to study space, but mostly the sun. Every morning, I'd run outside to see the sunrise; same for every evening with the sunset. I may only be 14, but space has always been a big interest of mine, especially the sun."

I noticed when she talked about this, her face lit up with a smile. I also noticed that she was staring directly at the sun, how was she doing that?

She faced me again. "I don't control the sun, I protect it. I make sure it has enough energy to rise and set each day and night. I also get my energy from the sun."

I interrupted her before she could talk more, "what do you mean by you get energy from the sun?"

"You don't know?" She said, staring at me with a confused expression.

I shook my head, also confused.

"With our elements come side effects, and they aren't fun," she laughed a little. "Mine, being the element of the sun, is that my powers don't work that well at night because I need the sun to function."

I was still confused about this and about how she knew all of this.

"How do you know about all of this?" I asked.

She took a quick glance at the snow-covered ground before looking back up at me.

"Kenzie told us a few days ago before we met you guys, and then Ava confirmed it."
