***JAE POV***
Tears poured down my face as I sat down on the edge of my bed, sobbing uncontrollably. I tried calling Dani, but she had blocked me.
What had just happened?
The girl of my dreams... the girl who was mine was done with me...
Just when I thought I might sink deeper into despair, my door creaked open and my older brother Heechul walked in, as he had just finished his job at the Seoul Police Department.
"'Sup, little shrimp?" Heechul asked, his trademark smirk plastered on your face. "I didn't know you got back with Hyeri."
"Fuck off, hyung!" I shouted, throwing a pillow at him. My anger was raw, mixed with heartbreak. "I DON'T LIKE HYERI!"
Heechul's smirk vanished, replaced by a look of confusion. He raised his hands defensively. "Woah, woah, calm down Jae. The fuck's going on?" he asked, sitting down next to me.
I shook my head, my shoulders trembling with each sob. I couldn't get the words out. Everything felt too painful–too fresh.
I couldn't hold it in anymore. I buried my face in his shoulder, soaking his uniform with my tears as I cried. "It's Dani... Someone hacked into my Instagram account and posted old pictures of me and Hyeri or something and made it look like we're still dating... I can't get into my Instagram. She thinks I'm still with Hyeri, and now she's done with me. She thinks I used her... I... I tried calling her but she blocked me, hyung. I lost her..."
Heechul immediately stood up. "Bro, you've been hacked."
"Yeah, no shit."
"Aish," Heechul shook his head. "It's fucking 12 AM. I just got home... if we deal with this hacking shit now, then you won't sleep and your training will get impacted tomorrow. Take a day off from college and let's settle this tomorrow morning at the station, yeah?"
I gulped, nodding. "Sure."
*****
It was the next morning, and Heechul, Hyeri and I were at the police station. I called Hyeri after I woke up and learnt that she was also hacked just like I was. She apparently tried calling Dani to tell her that she had been hacked and that she's absolutely not dating me. But Dani had blocked her as well.
I don't blame Dani.
Heechul did some Instagram snooping and saw that so many people were degrading and slandering her.
I'm a pacifist that only uses martial arts for self defense, but I wanted to seriously hurt whoever was hurting Dani.
So Heechul, Hyeri and I were at the police station.
We stood in the police station's cybercrime division, Heechul's presence steady beside us. Hyeri glanced at me and my brother, her usual confident demeanor laced with concern.
"Kang Heechul, Seoul PD," Heechul introduced himself to the officer seated behind the desk. "These two have had their social media accounts hacked, and it's causing a major public scandal. We need help."
The officer, a sharp-eyed woman with her hair pulled back in a tight ponytail, nodded and gestured for us to sit. "Kang Jaehoon, Jang Hyeri, I'm Detective Park, and I'll be handling your case. Can you both tell me what happened?"
Hyeri and I exchanged a quick look before I spoke up. "I found out last night. I tried logging into my Instagram, but I was completely locked out. I was locked out of Google too. I only knew something was wrong when Dani, my... girlfriend called me, upset about posts she'd seen. They were old pictures of me and Hyeri–we used to date years ago–and someone made it look like we were still together."
Hyeri added, "Same here. I couldn't log in to Instagram either. Or Google. Friends were messaging me, asking about the posts, but I haven't been able to see them myself. And... people have been sending me some pretty hateful messages."
Detective Park typed rapidly on her keyboard. "Alright, I'll start a trace on your accounts. Can you give me any other details? Did you notice anything unusual before you were locked out? Any suspicious emails or messages?"
I shook my head. "No, nothing. Everything seemed normal until I tried to log in last night."
"Same for me," Hyeri echoed. "There was nothing out of the ordinary."
Heechul, standing beside me, leaned in slightly. "They need this resolved as soon as possible, Detective. Their reputations are on the line, and my brother's girlfriend is caught up in this too. They're all athletes on the national teams. This could be horrendous for their public images."
Detective Park nodded. "I know. We'll do our best, Officer Kang. But these things can take time, especially if the hacker's using sophisticated methods. We'll start by tracing the IP addresses used to access your accounts. It's possible they're using VPNs, but we might still be able to find a lead."
I felt my frustration bubbling up. "How long will it take? I can't even contact Dani to explain. She thinks I'm still with Hyeri, and now she's blocked me."
Detective Park's expression softened. "I understand, but right now, we need to focus on getting your accounts back under control. Once we have access, you can make an official statement to clarify everything. Until then, try to stay calm."
"Easy for you to say," I muttered, running a hand through my hair. "People are saying horrible things about Dani online, and I can't do anything to defend her."
Heechul put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "We'll get this sorted, Jae. Just hang in there."
Detective Park continued typing, then looked up at us. "I've submitted the report to Instagram, and we'll reach out to their security team directly. For now, avoid engaging with anyone online about this. It's best to let us handle it."
Hyeri nodded, looking exhausted. "I just want this nightmare to be over."
"We all do," I agreed, feeling utterly drained. "Thank you, Detective."
"We'll keep you updated," Detective Park said, standing up. "In the meantime, try to rest and let us do our job."
Heechul guided us out of the office, his expression serious. "Let's go home. There's nothing more we can do besides waiting for them to get back to us."
As we walked out of the station, I couldn't help but glance at my phone, wishing for some miracle that would let me talk to Dani. But all I could do now was wait and hope that the truth would come out soon.
