𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐋𝐘𝐍𝐍 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐒 𝐔𝐏 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐄 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃 that she was fiddling with as there's a loud thud from outside her bedroom door. She hesitantly puts the cassette tape and player down, standing up and slowly walking over to her door.

She peeks out into the hallway and sees dark figures yelling at each other from the kitchen. Their voices are so loud and angry that she can barely make out what they're saying as their voices overlap.

Suddenly, there's an even louder voice filled with more fury than any of the others that rises above the rest. It's obvious what this voice is saying.

"STOP!!"

Neil.

Ashlynn slowly creeps out into the hallway, the floorboards creaking under her but luckily enough, no one's paying attention to the hallway right now. She peeks around the corner to see Neil, Billy and Max in the kitchen together, all looking pissed and furious.

"Listen to me, Billy." Neil hisses to his son. "You will not disrespect your sister like that."

"She's not my sister." Billy snarls back.

Neil grabs his son's wrist with such force Ashlynn flinches from where she's watching.

"Don't test me, boy." Neil growls furiously. "Now listen. This is what's going to happen. You're going to take your sister to the arcade and then you're going to pick her up after, understood? Take Ashlynn if you want, I don't care but you will take Maxine. Understand?"

Billy glares at her father but makes no move to remove his hand from his wrist. He already knows what'll happen if he does. They all do.

"Do you understand, Billy?" Neil spits out the words like venom. "I asked you a question which means you answer it. Do you understand?"

Billy glares at him definitely, his eyes dark with hatred. "I do."

Neil lets go of his wrist roughly, throwing it back at him. "Good."

Billy glares at his father as Neil whispers something else to him before turning back to Max and smiling. "Your brother will take you to the arcade now. Have fun."

Max watches him uncomfortably and her eyes shift from Billy to Neil. "Okay..."

Neil's smile widens. "Good. Be back by eight for dinner."

Then the man turns around and walks into the living room, luckily not going down the hallway and spotting Ashlynn, who silently watches her siblings.

Billy glares after Neil as Max silently watches him, something like concern in her eyes. As he turns back to face her, he turns his glare on his step-sister. "The hell are you looking at?"
