...

Every student in the hall was whispering things to their friends' ears.

It was impossible to make out words of the fast and almost quiet voices.

But one thing was sure, they were all talking about the same thing:

The top 50 students.

That's right, today they displayed the grades of the 50 best students in the entire high school.

Once a teacher finished sticking the paper on the wall, almost everyone rushed, pushing the teacher on the way, to read the two first names even if they had a gut feeling it'd be the same names.

Those 2 students mattered for everyone. The 48 others didn't.

Those 2 students both had full marks.

And those 2  students happened to be the only ones inside the classroom, escaping the halls pestered with noisy students.

...

Haibara put her bag on the table, taking out her notebooks.

Conan was looking outside of the window observing a few late teenagers. He kind of felt bad because they were going to get punished.

He turned around to look at Haibara who had now finished installing everything she needed for the next class to come.

And just as she finished installing her school furniture on her desk, silence installed itself.

But it wasn't long until Conan broke the silence. He had to because Haibara would never break the silence herself.

Sometimes, she said she was content with being quiet.

"I guess we can safely assume we got full marks again, right?"

It wasn't really a surprise. They were two brilliant (shrunken) teenagers doing all over again their whole education.

"Of course. Unless you hit your head with something blunt and got a 0?"

She smirked knowingly and he couldn't help but wonder if it was a coincidence or if she was making a reference to the day he became Edogawa Conan.

"Yeah. No. Don't get all high and mighty because you're first this time."

Conan replied defensively.

"I'm first because I answered the last question with more detail unlike you who lacks knowledge in science."

Haibara retorted.

Conan just rolled his eyes before stating:

"You said it yourself. It was a science related question. Sorry if I can't surpass someone who you know — is particularly good at science."

Haibara simply smirked as she held a pencil with her two fingers.

"Fair enough."

She then continued,

"Maybe I should tutor you in science, to keep this stimulating little rivalry on."

Conan, surprised by this kind proposition made by Haibara Ai, the girl who would never pull a stunt like that. It wasn't really a stunt but for a woman like her? It was.

"Well I'm not declining your generous offer, ma'am."

He said, knowing what would wait for him after that.

She just gave him a cold glare. Cold enough to give you hypothermia.

Just as the bell rang and students entered the classroom, ruining the pleasant and almost quiet atmosphere, Conan sat down beside Haibara.

"Then it's settled. It's always good to tutor an intellectually attractive person."

She said with her usual smirk, not really caring he called her ma'am.

Too bad, or too good that because of all the noise of the student's chattering, the word 'intellectually' was lost.
