Chase

...

"Quick! He's getting away!"

Haibara yelled, holding tightly to Conan as they advanced on the skateboard.

"I'm going as fast as I can!"

Conan replied, not taking his eyes off the green car.

"You should really ask Hakase to give it an upgrade."

Shouted Haibara, but it was drowned by the cars and trucks around them.

"I can't hear you!"

He yelled back but it was unheard by his partner because of the highway's loud noises.

Ai held him tightly as they scooted right and left, dodging cars and keeping track of the green car.

Anxiety kept building itself as they both worried the blue car might get away. After all, chasing a blue sports car with a skateboard wasn't exactly what one would deem an easy task.

Even so, Conan kept going, and by the time he almost reached the car, for the third time, the last thing he'd ever expected happened:

The skateboard's system had been damaged by an unknown outside factor.

(Presumably a pebble?)

That meant they couldn't go any faster now, and as Conan slowed down the pace, he could see the car he had been striving to catch disappear in the distance.

What a lucky day, 

He thought.

Even if their little chase had ended, Conan and Haibara would still need to keep going on the highway until they got out of it, the only problem was it was going to take an hour since the skate wouldn't go any faster because of the malfunction.

As they advanced at a normal pace, Conan noticed Haibara still clutching to him tightly, she wasn't really used to the speed of Hakase's skateboard.

He was about to tell her she didn't need to squeeze him that tightly anymore:

"Hey Haibara." 

He started, saying a bit loudly to be heard.

"What?"

Haibara replied, yelling a bit as well.

As Conan was about to tell her she didn't have to hold tightly to him anymore, he stopped in his tracks and said instead with a smile:

"Actually, never mind. I don't mind it."

A dumbfounded Ai looked at him and answered:

"What are you talking about?"

Does the Aptx have secondary effects?

Haibara thought to herself.

They then continued the ride in a somewhat confusing-happy atmosphere, Haibara still holding tightly to him.
