I rubbed the sleep from eyes, opening them to dim sunlight that streamed in through the open curtains. I groaned loudly before rolling onto my stomach, facing away from the windows and covering myself from the chill in the room. The bed was extremely comfortable, but even so I did not sleep much. Tossing and turning, the nightmares I had kept me awake most the night. As I looked around the other side of the room, I had to blink back my surprise as I noticed a tray setting on the bedside table, the smell of eggs and toast making my mouth water. Did Boian really bother himself to bring me food?

Setting up on my arms I reached out to grab the note that had been left sitting on the tray, folded so it sat upright like a tent, my name written in beautiful cursive across the front.

Lucy

It's safer for you indoors today, we are being watched, little witch. I will see you when the sun sets.

"At least I get time to myself." I said setting the note down on the table.

So, my assumption had been true, Boian wouldn't be keeping me company during the day light hours. But I had no idea how long the days lasted this far up north when winter set in. I sat up fully after a moment, weighing my options as the smell of coffee finally caught my attention. It had been a long-time sense I had the bitter taste of coffee on my tongue. I reached for the cup inspecting it carefully before taking a sip. The small thought I had that Boian might poison me was smashed by the realization that he needed me alive to feed from. But also, he could kill me any way he wanted, and I doubted he would use poison to do it.

I ate everything he had brought me, not realizing how hungry I was from all the blood he took from me when I first arrived, and to my surprise the food was not to bland. After showering and dressing I fought the war with myself to leave my room, I did not want to go out there, but I knew there was nowhere in this house, or on the property I could go that Boian would not find me. Which brought me back to his note, telling me it would be better for me to stay inside today. What did he mean we were being watched? Was there something going on outside that I did not know about? Or was Boain just trying to keep me inside.

I decided to peek out my window, the sun had risen fairly high for now and I looked beyond the curtains to the outside. If I had thought it was beautiful yesterday, today it was stunning. I always knew that I would like to see this part of Alaska. The untamed wilderness, where the only sign of civilization was this cabin right here and a barn that matched. As I looked out into the expansive senary something else caught my eye, a dark shadow that darted back and forth between the tree line, like it was trying to come to the cabin, but failing. As if it could feel me watching it the figure stopped, and I was able to make out the tall shape. I gasped loudly taking a few steps back from the window. Of course, Alaska had ware wolfs.

I had never met one personally, but I knew their history, their reputation almost rivaled the vampires in their brutality. They were remote by nature, their clans staying in the forest, but why was this one prowling around outside in the tree lines way out here in Alaska. It had me wondering if there was a clan nearby, not that I really wanted to find out. I was in no way going to affiliate myself with wolfs, no matter what my situation was here.

I walked away from the windows entirely, and decided I did not want to be cooped up in my room all day. I headed downstairs, intent on looking around the house when I reached the top of the stairs, I noticed that the large windows were covered in drapes pulled closed to block out the sun. But vampires, as far as I knew slept underground still like they had for, well for forever. Why would Boian be any different. I went to the curtains, wanting to open them but if the wolf was still prowling around outside, I was not going to invite it to watch me while it did. So, I sighed and moved on to the kitchen, which was pretty modern in its appliances.
