Lucy
Bliss.
Straight bliss.
Every slow pull of his mouth on my neck made me forget who I was, why I was here, what Boian had said to me. He washed away every care I had, and all the worries of my world. And then it ended. Reality came crashing down around me as I opened my eyes.
I was half laying on something soft staring up into Boian's bright red eyes as he hovered above me, one hand supporting my head while he studied my face. I wish I knew what he was thinking when he looked at me like that. After laying me down gently, he stood, leaving me to lay on the floor. I wasn't surprised in the least that he was just leaving me on the ground. I was nothing to him, he said so himself. I turned my head slowly to look at the fire that had begun to die in its hearth, trying to think through my still clouded brain.
Watching as the small flames licked up inside the fireplace, I had half expected Boian to leave me here all night, but he did something I did not expect. He picked me up off the ground, saying nothing as he settled me in on the couch, covering me with a throw blanket, pushing a glass of water into my hands. It was an odd gesture, this man was not my friend, he was nothing to me, so why was he tucking me in on the couch when he made it clear I was nothing. You did not treat nothings with such care.
"Drink the water Lucy." He said.
I had been staring at him, curiosity bubbling to the surface of my thoughts. The way he looked at me, there was a flash of pity in his eyes before he masked it with his perfectly blank stare. Why would a predator like Boian take pity on me?
"Why did you look at me like that?" I asked after taking a healthy drink of the water in my hands. "When you were done feeding from me."
He was standing in front of the fireplace, turned away from me with one hand resting on the mantle, as if he were deep in thought.
"You are a strange witch." he said, "Do you always ask so many questions?"
"I do when your actions do not match your words." I fidgeted with the glass, before setting it on the table next to me.
"I have to keep you alive Lucy."
"That's obvious, but I thought you didn't care about me?"
"I don't."
It was a simple statement, because it was true, but the way he said it made my heart clench. There was something he wasn't telling me, I wanted to ask what he was hiding, but thought better of it. I felt like I was already walking a thin line.
We stayed this way in silence for what seemed like forever, neither of us looking at the other before Boian finally turned to face me, catching my attention from the dancing flames.
"I have some things I need to attend to. The two locked doors you tried to enter earlier are off limits unless I am with you."
"How did you know," I started but he held up his hand to stop me.
"Do not, interrupt me." He said, and my mouth snapped shut. "I know everything that goes on inside my home Lucy. Those are my private spaces, you are welcome to go into any of the other rooms in the house except for mine."
I just nodded in understanding. The command in his voice was enough, I would do as he said whether I wanted to or not.
"Good, I will return before the sun rises." then he left without giving me a second glance, and I was left alone again staring after him.
It wasn't like I hadn't been used to being left alone, but being so far away from civilization in a house with a vampire surrounded by trees and mountains and werewolves, left me feeling a type of way. I wasn't used to being scared. I always took charge of my bad situations, especially after what happened with my old coven. Back with Hellsgate I was still useful, I had things to do, classes to take, and people to piss off. Here I was walking on a very, very thin line. If I stepped off of it even slightly, I was sure that the coven would have me killed.
