Sebastian POV
It's weird, having the company of a human again: a good human. As long as I could recall, it was me, the Painter, and all the monsters I released.
While there was the occasional expendable, they never stayed, and they never lasted. Always making some stupid mistake that ended in their demise.
Being honest, it was surprising to me that a human like Y/n lasted as long as they have here. This place wasn't really made for humans to thrive. Why did they choose to stay? Why did I let them?
I knew their objective: get the crystal. When did they stop caring about that? I guess that didn't really matter. Even if they had proceeded and managed to escape the monsters, they wouldn't escape Painter's gauntlet.
I finally reached a hole in the ground, diving into it and swimming around at ease. It felt so freeing, being able to swim now and then, but I knew I would never be able to go far. To Urbanshade, I was deadly, and now I truly am. I have someone to kill for.
I dropped the diving gear, pushing it a good distance away with my tail. Within seconds, there was a silent explosion. That could have been my human, but it wasn't. I'm glad it wasn't.
I pulled myself out of the water, brushing my hair from my face and glancing around. The facility was quiet, the PA system silent after the entire time of me and Y/n hearing them.
Were those expendables already dead? Or were they already preparing another squad in case these idiots inevitably fail? I would make sure they did. I needed this crystal to continue my research, to get the fuck out of this place.
My only complication was promising Painter a way out too, and now my little human. But, maybe staying here with them wouldn't be so bad, for a little while at least.
I found the vent I had led Y/n to, entering it and seeing them pacing. "You alright?" I eyed them down and they seemed to tense up at my voice.
"Sebastian," they tried to straighten out the messy clothes they were in. "Uhm, yes. I'm okay. Just. . . thinking," they trailed off.
"One of the many human curses," I gently ruffled their hair. "I'm here now, so there shouldn't be much to worry about, right?" I offered a small smile. As small as I could manage, at least.
"Right," they gave a little nod. "The PA went quiet," the human voiced what I had noticed after getting rid of the diving gear.
"Mm," I hummed in reply. "Did you hear anyone nearby?" the ray in my face flickered and I looked to the vent. With heavy thuds, a man rolled into the room, glancing between me and my little human.
"What the fuck kinda freak are you?" I glared down as the expendable spoke up. "And you're the prisoner who went solo and died," his chunky finger pointed to Y/n.
"And where's the rest of your crew?" I felt a wide grin spread across my lips. "Surely they're still around. Are they waiting right outside for you?"
"An' why do you think I would tell you?" It was clear the man was trying to make himself seem larger, tougher. Foolish.
I nudged my human back with my tail, a silent way of saying to get behind me. My fingers loosely grabbed onto the ray in front of my eyes.
"So that I can kill you all," I plunged the room into darkness, eyes focused on the man who dashed to get into the vent with me close behind him.
The hall was pitch black from a little friend passing through, and I could hear the heavy breathing from the expendable. Always so fearful, it was hilarious. His footsteps were noisy, giving away his every movement, where he was headed, and when he tripped.
"You humans are always so stupid," I towered over him. "You never get the message to stay the fuck away," my hand wrapped around his throat as I raised him up, throwing his body into the wall harshly.
"I mean, come on," I let out a dry laugh. "Your men don't come back, so you send down more, and more, and more," I grabbed the human, claws digging further into his skin as I spoke, warm blood pouring out into my hand. "You people don't learn. I will kill every. single. man that you send down here.
"And that's a promise, so I hope you're listening," I tilted my head back, eyes piercing through the camera. "In fact, I'm surrounded by their bodies," I glanced back to the foolish expendable bleeding out in my hand.
"I would say I'm sorry," my hand tightened around his neck, squeezing the life out of him. "but I'm really not. Not for you, or for those other idiots at Urbanshade who want me dead. You deserve this."
