I was sitting at my desk in my office the next day after the party when my cellphone rang.

"Hello?" I asked in a groan since I was in a groove of writing.

"Mags." I heard Ransom's voice say and I hung up. I went back to writing and my phone rang again, and I answered. "Mags, don't hang up." Ransom said and I groaned.

"Ransom what do you want?" I asked and he sighed.

"Listen, can you please just come into the office and talk to me about the manuscript." Ransom said.

"Nope." I said and hung up. There was no reason to take this call, I was so over Ransom. The phone rang one more time and I groaned.

"Ransom I swear to fucking god! Stop calling me!" I yelled and I was met with silence.

"Okay, I'm not Ransom..." I heard the voice say.

"Sorry dad." I said.

"Why are you yelling at Ransom?" Peter asked and I groaned.

"Because I was an idiot..." I said.

"Oh my god, did you sleep with him?" Peter asked and I made a throwing up noise. "Okay Nola, don't be gross." Peter said.

"Don't ask gross questions." I said and he laughed.

"So why are you yelling at Ransom?" Peter asked and I sighed.

"I was an idiot and gave him a manuscript to read and he wants to publish it. I changed my mind though and don't want it published. I want to get my stuff published for my work not for who I know." I said and Peter sighed.

"Sweetie, you know you and Ransom don't get along and he wouldn't do this because he likes you. He must think the book was good enough. Which one did you give him?" Peter asked. I sighed.

"Midnight in Wilmington." I said and Peter sighed.

"You gave him one of your best books and expected him to not to want to publish it?" Peter asked.

"Moment of weakness when I was going through the books. It wasn't what I wanted to give him, but it just happened." I said and Peter chuckled.

"Well princess, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you shot yourself in the foot." Peter said and I groaned.

"I know." I said and he sighed.

"So, any ways, the reason I called..." Peter said and I sighed.

"Why do I not like your change of tone." I said.

"Your mom is coming into town with Finn." Peter said mentioned my mother's new husband.

"And?" I asked.

"And she wants to meet you for dinner one night. She is going through me since she doesn't have your number." Peter said.

"When will she be in town?" I asked.

"Next week." Peter said.

"Set something up, I'm free whenever." I said and Peter sighed.

"Will you show up?" Peter asked.

"Yeah, I will. Will you come with me?" I asked and Peter chuckled.

"Of course, sweetie." Peter said and I smiled.

"Okay sounds good." I said.

"Okay well I will let you get back to writing and yelling at Ransom when he calls." Peter said and I laughed.

"Bye dad. I love you." I said.

"Love you too princess." Peter said and hung up the phone. I went back to writing and the phone rang again, and I sighed.

"Hello?" I asked knowing who it was.

"Is this Ms. Maxwell?" A voice asked.

"Yes..." I answered.

"This is Mr. Thrombey's secretary at Blood Like Wine. He would like it if you could come into his office today." She said and I groaned.

"Mr. Thrombey or Mr. Drysdale?" I asked annoyed.

"Mr. Thrombey. When are you free?" She asked and I sighed.

"In an hour?" I asked.

"Sounds perfect." She said and I sighed and hung up. I went to my closet and grabbed a black pencil skirt that was white pinstriped, a peach-colored button up blouse and some black heals. I fixed my hair and make-up and headed down the stairs and I stopped to see Gerdy.

"I have a meeting to go to, I will be back soon." I said and she nodded. I got in my car and drove to Blood Like Wine publishing. I didn't want to have this meeting. I knew now Ransom went behind my back and showed Harlan the manuscript. As I walked up to Harlan's secretary my upper arm was grabbed and I was dragged into an office and the door was shut behind us and I groaned.

"Ransom!" I said and shoved him when he let me go. I then looked at him.

"Oh my god! You set this up! Harlan doesn't even know I'm here, does he?!" I asked and Ransom sighed.

"You wouldn't take my calls, I had to talk to you." Ransom said and held up the copy of the manuscript he made.

"I made this copy before I gave you back the original. I placed it on Harlan's desk but when I saw how you acted last night I went in before he got in this morning and took it off his desk. Mags, I just need you to know that was a hard choice for me because this is good, this book is damn good. I finished it in 2 days! I want to publish it. Why won't you let me have this? Let me do this for you." Ransom begged and I sighed.

"Ransom...can I tell you something?" I asked and he sighed.

"Anything." Ransom said and I sighed.

"That's my best book. I didn't mean to give you that book. I meant to give you something shitty so you would leave me the hell alone, but I grabbed that one by mistake." I said and Ransom chuckled.

"I don't think it was by mistake sweetie. I think you wanted me to read this, I think you wanted me to know this existed. You need to just let me give this to Harlan and let him read it." Ransom said and I groaned and sat on the edge of Ransom's desk and crossed my legs.

"Can I do one thing if you give it to Harlan?" I asked and Ransom nodded, and I put my hand out for him to hand me the manuscript copy. He handed it to me and I grabbed a black marker from Ransom's desk and blacked out my name.

"Why did you do that?!" Ransom asked.

"Give it to Harlan without my name so I can get his unbiased opinion. Once he reads it and if he likes it then I will come in and meet with him." I said and Ransom sighed.

"Okay fine." Ransom said and moved closer to me on his desk. He leaned down and pinned me on his desk placed his hands on either side of me.

"Why do you have to make everything so difficult Mags?" Ransom said.

"Why do you have to push my buttons Ransom?" I asked and pushed off his desk brushing our bodies against each other.

"See ya around Drysdale." I said and walked away leaving his office.
