Chapter 80 & 81
"Where would I have a childhood friend... who's an Omega?" Yang An stared at Yu Qingyan for a long time, his expression becoming increasingly strange, and finally couldn't help but ask what was on his mind.
Yu Qingyan moved his wrist slightly, his thumb slowly gliding over the other's Adam's apple, smiling softly as he said, "That Omega classmate you were chatting with in class—didn't you grow up together in the orphanage? Now you're attending the same university. Doesn't that count?"
He stared intently at the beta, observing every subtle change in his expression.
Yu Qingyan had wanted to ask Yang An about his relationship with the Omega long ago. Yang An had previously said they were "just acquaintances" and firmly denied being friends. But the information Yu Qingyan had gathered told a different story—
They had known each other since the orphanage, sat together in class for years, and often walked together. Although the Omega had left the orphanage for a while, they were now attending the same university and even the same major, whispering in class. It was clearly more than just "acquaintances."
He still remembered a sunset photo Yang An had sent him, where the shadows of two people walking side by side were captured in the corner. Yang An's attitude before and after the photo had changed—from saying the sunset was "beautiful" to "not that great," indicating something unpleasant had happened.
—Later, Bai He reported back, mentioning that the Omega's name was Yan Xuru, and that Yang An had been quietly upset after seeing the Omega hugging someone else behind a tree.
...Yan Xuru? Yu Qingyan silently repeated the name in his mind. Rather than being "just acquaintances," he suspected the beta might have had romantic feelings for him.
The hand resting on Yang An's shoulder suddenly clenched, nails digging into his palm. The slight pain kept him conscious, but the intense jealousy grew like wild vines, dragging him into a suffocating, dark abyss. The oppressive feeling surrounded him, leaving almost no light, as if he was drowning.
Yang An finally grasped what was happening. Why was it always Yan Xuru?
He sighed helplessly. "Qingyan, I think you've asked me this before. I really don't know him well. We're not even friends. We rarely talk, just acquaintances."
Yu Qingyan leaned in closer, his lips brushing against Yang An's Adam's apple as he whispered, "Then why were you so sad over him?"
Sad? Over him?
Yang An was bewildered. He didn't understand where this idea had come from.
He pulled the Alpha out of his embrace, cupping his face with his hands and gave a soft "tsk," starting to squeeze and knead his cheeks. "Qingyan, did you dream all of this and pin it on me?"
Yu Qingyan didn't resist, letting the beta squish his face, while a few strands of silver hair fell messily across his forehead. His gaze stayed fixed on Yang An as he muttered, "The sunset."
Yang An frowned, thinking, "The sunset... what about it?"
"The sunset photo you sent me—there was an Omega walking alongside you... it was him, right?"
Yang An tried hard to recall the events of that day. He vaguely remembered walking out of class with Yan Xuru... but...
"Wasn't the photo just of the sunset?"
"There were two shadows walking together."
Yang An paused, immediately opening his terminal to check the photo.
