Chapter 39

At three o'clock in the morning, when everything was silent.

The blanket in the darkness shifted slightly, slowly puffing up, then sliding down to the end of the bed.

Yang An sat up slowly, leaned against the headboard, his head slightly tilted back, his eyes clear and energetic.

As expected, sleeping too much in the afternoon made him unable to sleep at night.

The dorm was pitch black and eerily silent, as if only his own breathing could be heard.

Yang An sighed softly and turned on the light in the soundproof cabin with a click. He fumbled in the storage compartment, taking out the mechanical chip he had been working on last night, and pressed the gray button at the head of the bed. The floating desk slowly emerged from the center of the bed.

Each bed's soundproof cabin was of excellent quality, also providing blackout effects, so there was no concern about disturbing his roommates.

Yang An rested his elbows on the floating desk, put on a photon magnifier, and, with his well-defined fingers, began working diligently with various miniature tools, acting as a "manual laborer."

Three hours later

"Daylight is here..." Yang An looked up, squinting slightly, paused his work, took the chip off the control panel, and carefully placed it in a box. He then stretched his stiff shoulders.

Oh, there seems to be an early class today?

Yang An slid his fingertip across the screen to confirm,

The first class is—

"Mecha Color Matching and Appreciation."

Yang An carefully got out of bed, walked into the bathroom, started washing up, planned to run at the sports field, have breakfast at the cafeteria, and then attend the class.

"Good morning, master!" Walker, turning the black column, greeted Yang An mechanically. "You woke up 15 minutes earlier than usual today."

Yang An glanced at it and made a shushing gesture. "There are still people sleeping in the dorm, so you..."

"Not anymore, everyone's up." Walker moved stiffly, waving in another direction in the bathroom. "Good morning, my dear friend!"

Chen Shuming: "..."

"Good morning, Walker." Chen Shuming, standing still with his washing supplies, slowly turned his face toward Yang An, clearing his throat awkwardly. "Hi, Yang An. You're up... quite early today."

"Not too early, actually." Yang An paused and replied.

Then, the bathroom fell into silence.

The reason for this was still the awkward conversation from last night.

The phrase "one-night stand" had created an unprecedentedly awkward atmosphere in the dorm, almost reaching freezing point. The Alpha, who spoke without thinking, was left standing there, apologizing madly to Yang An, his eyes full of bewilderment, seemingly shocked that he had actually said such a thing.

Though Yang An's mood was subtly complicated, he graciously said it was okay. The two even discussed various reasons why Alpha's pheromones might linger on a beta.

One reason was intimate contact related to X-love, another was gland contact, and a third was prolonged contact that transitions from quantitative to qualitative.

However, these methods don't actually last long. Even with gland contact, the pheromones disperse in at most a day, and less advanced Alphas might have their scent disappear in half a day.
