Enid awoke with a pounding headache, her senses dulled and her body heavy as she blinked in the dim light of Yoko's dorm. She groaned, turning her head slightly to find Yoko sitting at the small desk in the corner, scrolling through her phone. Across the room, Divina was sprawled on the bed, still asleep.
"Rough night?" Yoko asked without looking up, a smirk tugging at her lips.
"More like confusing," Enid mumbled, pressing her hands to her face as fragments of the party began to flood back. The kiss. The way Wednesday had stormed out. The way Enid had walked out afterward and grabbed the nearest bottle of whatever was available.
"What exactly happened?" Yoko turned to face her, eyebrow raised. "One minute you're heading off with Wednesday, and the next she's storming out, and you're downing liquor like it's water."
Divina stirred, her interest piqued by the conversation. "Yeah, we didn't exactly get a front-row seat. Spill."
Enid groaned again, this time out of sheer embarrassment. "It's... complicated." She sat up, her head spinning slightly. "We kissed."
Both Yoko and Divina's eyes widened.
"Wait, you what?" Divina asked, now fully awake and sitting up.
"Wednesday was supposed to kiss me for that stupid spin-the-bottle game. We went somewhere private and..." Enid's voice trailed off as she ran a hand through her hair. "It was intense. And then she just... left."
Yoko leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. "So, you kissed her, and then she ran off. Sounds like Wednesday's usual emotional repression in full swing."
"Did she say anything after the kiss?" Divina pressed, now looking genuinely curious.
Enid shook her head. "No, she just bolted. I mean, I felt something—like, really felt something—but then she was gone. I didn't know what to do, so I drank to forget about it."
Yoko sighed, standing up and pacing the small space. "Well, it sounds like you need to talk to her. Obviously, something's going on between you two. Maybe she just doesn't know how to handle it."
Divina nodded in agreement. "Yoko's right. You two have been best friends forever, and now this? It's definitely time to stop dancing around it and confront her."
Enid bit her lip, her nerves still on edge. "But what if she doesn't feel the same way? What if that kiss was just... nothing to her?"
Yoko scoffed. "Enid, have you met Wednesday? She's not the type to kiss someone just for the hell of it. Trust me, if she kissed you, it means something. You just need to figure out what."
Divina grinned. "And hey, if nothing else, you can kiss her again and see what happens."
Enid laughed nervously. "Yeah, that's not terrifying at all."
After a few more minutes of encouragement (or borderline peer pressure, as Enid saw it), she finally agreed to confront Wednesday. She parted ways with Yoko and Divina, heading to her classes with a renewed sense of determination—albeit with her stomach twisting into knots every time she thought about what she needed to do.
But Wednesday was nowhere to be found throughout the day. Enid had checked their usual spots—classrooms, hallways, even their dorm—but Wednesday had seemingly vanished.
With her last class over, Enid headed to the library. She still had assignments to focus on, but she couldn't shake the building tension in her chest. Divina's words replayed in her mind: "Kiss her again and see what happens."
She settled into her usual corner of the library, intending to study, but her mind refused to focus. The memories of last night came flooding back—the taste of Wednesday's lips, the way their bodies had pressed together, the rush of emotions she hadn't expected to feel so intensely.
Enid leaned back in her chair, staring blankly at the pages in front of her. The words blurred, her thoughts drifting as her mind played and replayed the kiss.
Before she knew it, hours had passed, and the library was nearly empty. Enid blinked, realizing she had zoned out for far too long.
Great, just what I needed, she thought, gathering her things quickly. Her nerves were now a tightly wound spring, coiled and ready to snap. The longer she waited, the worse it got.
It's now or never.
Taking a deep breath, she left the library and headed straight for their dorm. Her werewolf instincts urged her on, the need to be close to her mate overwhelming any sense of hesitation. Her nerves tried to creep back in, but she pushed them aside. This wasn't about overthinking anymore. This was about feeling.
Reaching their door, Enid didn't bother to knock. She barged in, breathless and determined, not caring if she interrupted Wednesday's sacred writing time.
Wednesday, sitting on by her desk writing, immediately looked up. She knew something was different as soon as she saw the look in Enid's eyes. It was a mixture of determination, frustration, and something else—something primal. The book dropped to her side as she quickly stood, bracing herself for whatever was about to come.
Enid didn't waste a second. She strode forward, her eyes locked on Wednesday's, unflinching. Her breath was shallow, the energy in the room electric.
Without a word, she reached for Wednesday's waist, pulling her close and pressing her lips against hers. The kiss was nothing like the one at the party—it was raw, filled with all the emotions she'd been holding back. There was no hesitation, no question. It was a statement, a claim, a release of everything she'd kept bottled up inside since that night.
Wednesday froze for only a moment, the shock of Enid's sudden boldness catching her off guard. But then, instinct took over, and she responded, her hands coming up to grip Enid's shoulders, grounding herself in the intensity of the kiss.
