As the days passed after Ayesha’s return, she began to notice a change in Amir. It started subtly—small gestures that sent butterflies fluttering in her stomach. One afternoon, while they were preparing dinner together, Amir brushed his fingers against hers as he handed her a bowl of spices. The simple touch lingered in the air, leaving Ayesha momentarily speechless.
“Careful, don’t burn yourself,” he teased, a playful smirk gracing his lips.
Ayesha felt her cheeks heat up, quickly focusing on the cooking. “I think I’ll manage,” she replied, trying to sound composed.
But Amir wasn’t done. He would catch her gaze across the room and hold it for just a second longer than necessary, a knowing smile playing on his lips. During family game nights, he would lean in closer while they played, his shoulder brushing against hers, igniting sparks that made her heart race.
One evening, they were all gathered in the living room after dinner, playing a board game. Amir leaned in to whisper something in Ayesha's ear, his breath warm against her skin. “I think you’re cheating,” he said with a playful glint in his eyes, making her laugh.
“Oh really? And how do you figure that?” she shot back, trying to maintain her composure while her heart hammered in her chest.
“Because you always win when I’m playing,” he replied, a teasing smile spreading across his face.
Ayesha shook her head, trying to suppress her smile. “Maybe you just need to step up your game!”
Just then, Hamza walked in, eyeing the two of them with a raised eyebrow. “What’s this? Flirting over board games?” he teased, plopping down beside them.
“Yeah, Amir! Careful, or you’ll give her an unfair advantage,” Sara chimed in, joining the playful banter.
Amir chuckled, leaning back in his seat, clearly enjoying the attention. “What? I’m just trying to keep things interesting,” he defended himself, but his grin suggested he was more than happy to flirt with Ayesha.
“Interesting? It looks like you’re just trying to distract her,” Hamza added, nudging Amir playfully.
Amir shrugged, glancing at Ayesha with a twinkle in his eye. “Maybe I am. Can you blame me? She’s got my attention, after all.”
Ayesha felt a rush of embarrassment wash over her, but she couldn’t help the smile tugging at her lips. She looked down at the board game, trying to hide her flushed cheeks.
“Aw, look at them!” Sara teased, leaning closer. “You two are like a rom-com waiting to happen. ‘The Flirting Foodies’ or something.”
“Yeah! And I can be the funny best friend who throws a wrench in their plans,” Hamza chimed in, feigning a dramatic tone.
Amir threw his head back, laughing, clearly enjoying the banter. “Sorry, buddy, but I think it’s a two-person show. You’re just the audience.”
“Hey, I can be the supportive audience!” Hamza protested, crossing his arms. “I’ll cheer for you guys!”
Ayesha bit her lip, feeling both shy and amused. “You guys are ridiculous,” she said, shaking her head but unable to hide her smile.
“Ridiculous? Or just observant?” Hamza challenged, winking at Ayesha. “We see the chemistry here. You can’t deny it!”
“Chemistry?” Ayesha echoed, feeling her heart race. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh please!” Sara exclaimed, rolling her eyes. “Amir practically lights up when he looks at you. You two are like magnets! Just admit it already.”
