The Tug

It was one of those chilly New York nights where the air bites at your skin, and the streets are buzzing with people hurrying about their business. Sophia, a tall, dark-haired beauty with curves that turned heads, wasn't in any rush tonight. She was just out for a casual dinner with her best friend, Maria. The clinking of heels against the pavement filled the air when suddenly, she felt a sharp tug on her purse. Instinctively, she whipped around and yanked it back, catching a glimpse of a scruffy-looking guy. He was unprepared for the fight she gave and stumbled, dropping to the ground.

"Not today, asshole," Sophia muttered under her breath. Her heart raced, but she kept her face calm—because the last thing she'd let the world see was her panic.

Sophia wasn't your average woman. She had a past full of secrets, but on the surface, she was just another girl in the city. As she caught her breath, adjusting her bag on her shoulder, a tall figure leaned against a nearby lamppost, watching the entire scene with an amused smirk.

"Are you alright?" The voice was smooth, playful, almost teasing. Sophia looked over to see a man with green eyes that had trouble written all over them. His smile—dangerous. Handsome as sin. Too charming to be trusted.

"Do I look alright?" Sophia snapped, her heart still racing. Her lips curled into a sarcastic smile. She wasn't the type to be easily impressed by a pretty face.

The man, unfazed, chuckled. "Guess you don't need saving. But, you know, if you ever did, I'm Alex."

Sophia rolled her eyes, but something in his casual demeanor intrigued her. Before she could respond, Alex nodded towards her. "C'mon. Let me walk you to wherever you're headed. We wouldn't want any more purse snatchers, would we?"

She hesitated for a second before shrugging. "Sure, whatever. If you can keep up."
