PROLOGUE
Coming Home

Lorelai walked through the farmhouse entrance and was immediately greeted by Wednesday, the black cat, who had taken a break from harassing birds. Lorelai walked into the kitchen, smiling when she saw her husband standing there, leaning against the doorway.

    "We should have called her 'bird strike'." Lorelai told him, letting her duffel bag fall to the floor.

    Ethan stared at her in shock and surprise, "I thought you weren't getting in until tomorrow. I didn't make supper or anything, we just ordered pizza." Ethan replied.

    "Excuse me, I like pizza. And where–"

    "Mom!!"

    Lorelai grinned at the sound of 4-year-old Alistair's voice. She turned around and picked him up the second he ran towards her. "Did dad annoy you while I was gone?" She asked.

    Alistair nodded with a mischievous look on his face. "Yeah."

    "Okay, is the pizza here now or..." Lorelai trailed off.

    "Just got it a few minutes ago." Ethan answered.

    Lorelai kissed the top of Alistair's head and walked into the living room to set him on the couch. She happily sat down beside her son and grabbed the pizza box from Ethan. She ate the pizza slice happily, handing a slice to Alistair. "Mom, why do you have a cut on your face?" Alistair wondered.

    "I got scratched by a cat." She lied.

    That was the deal Lorelai and Ethan made. They wouldn't tell Alistair their jobs until he was older. A kid didn't need to know half of the stuff that they did, especially their kid.

    "Are you okay?" He asked.

    "Yeah. I'm okay." Lorelai replied with a small smile.

    After a couple of hours, Lorelai had to drag Alistair upstairs to his room. Lorelai put Ethan in charge of putting him to bed while she took a shower after telling Alistair goodnight. She walked out of the bathroom in pajama pants and an oversized black t-shirt to see Ethan sitting on the edge of the bed. Lorelai crawled in bed, still sitting up and looked at Ethan, who finally sat beside her instead.

    "You knew I was coming back today, didn't you."

    "Ranford called me. So, what actually happened?" Ethan admitted, then pointed to the cut. "Didn't think a pentagon security guard would pull a knife."

    "No, we got intercepted at the exit and this asshole tried to kill Agent Eckerson and I." Lorelai answered, running her hands through her hair.

    "Still can't believe they thought Sahana was a murderer. I mean, she's a tactics agent, yeah, but she's never even on the field. How's Briar? I mean, having her mom placed in the most secure prison in the U.S., isn't exactly the best thing in the world." Ethan responded.

    "I don't know." She told him. "I'm just glad they're both okay now. Ranford's putting Sahana on a much needed mental leave in a safehouse. Pretty sure it's somewhere in Ontario, Canada." Lorelai explained. "How was Alistair?"

    "Well, he's a kid with a lot of energy and curiosity. Benji came over the other day and even he didn't understand how Alistair could have that much energy."

    "Well, I think I know." Lorelai said quietly, letting out a yawn. "I gotta sleep now."

    "But–"

    "I need sleep, otherwise there will be a murdered committed in this house." Lorelai stated firmly.

    Ethan's eyes widened in fear. He let out a quick and nervous laugh. "Goodnight, Lore."

    Lorelai mumbled a goodnight and turned on her other side.

    Ethan watched as Wednesday tried to jump onto the bed, but failed. She was only six months old and very small. So, Ethan carefully moved off the bed, picked her up and placed her on the bed. Wednesday instantly made her way to curl up beside Lorelai by climbing on top of her.

So, I have been trying to figure out how to do act one of this fic because I cannot write MI: III for the life of me, so it's taking place in Ghost Protocol instead

We also need to appreciate Wednesday, the black cat
