Izuku Midoriya's POV
"Bye, Mum! I'm heading out now!" I called out to her as I stood in front of the door, the cool morning air creeping in as I slipped on my sneakers.
The sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow on the hallway. I grabbed my bag, feeling the reassuring weight of my school supplies, and opened the door, ready to leave for another day at school.
"Have fun at school, sweetie! Take proper care of yourself and try not to break your bones again." Her voice carried a mixture of concern and humour, the light chuckle that followed betraying her worry.
I could see the worry lines etched on her forehead, a reminder of all the scrapes and bruises I'd come home with over the past year.
"Don't worry about me, Mum; your son will be fine. I'm working hard to minimize my quirk's side effects." I launched into my spiel, excited to share my progress. "During my first training session at the beginning of this year, Mr. Aizawa scolded me about the same thing. I've been trying to improve since then. I have these strategies now—using only a small percentage of my quirk and focusing it on smaller body parts like my index finger. This way, the damage is less and—"
My words tumbled out, a flood of excitement and nervous energy, until my mother stepped out of the kitchen. She placed a gentle hand on my shoulder, stopping my rambling.
"You'll be late for school if you keep talking." Her teasing smile made me blush, and I realized I was getting carried away again.
"R-right." I hurriedly approached her, leaning in to kiss her cheek before stepping out into the crisp morning air.
As I walked toward school, I continued to ponder ways to improve my quirk, lost in thought. My mind raced with strategies, calculations, and daydreams of success, leaving me oblivious to the world around me.
Suddenly, I realized my shoelaces were untied, a small, almost insignificant detail that would soon have dire consequences. Just as I was about to take another step, I heard someone shout, "Hey, careful!" but I didn't register it until it was too late.
My shoelaces betrayed me, and I felt myself plummeting toward the unforgiving concrete below. Time slowed, and my life flashed before my eyes, just like that fateful day during my entrance exam. Regret washed over me, but I couldn't dwell on it long—this time, there was no Uraraka to save me.
I squinted, bracing for the impact that never came. Instead, I felt a strong grip at the hem of my blazer, yanking me back to safety. I turned around, ready to thank my unexpected savior, and found myself staring at a figure that seemed almost ethereal. A boy stood beside me, laughter barely contained in his eyes.
"Are you alright?" he asked, a grin spreading across his face, amusement dancing in his eyes as he took in my shocked expression.
"A real a-angel? I must be dead." My stammering words surprised even me, and I saw the boy's face shift from laughter to mild discomfort.
"Not at all... but thanks for the compliment." He scratched the back of his neck, a slight blush creeping onto his cheeks.
"Are you going to UA too?" he asked, his eyes bright with enthusiasm. I was taken aback—how did he know? But then he pointed at my school uniform, and I realized he wore one as well.
"A-Ah, yes," I replied, nodding my head quickly. "Thank you for saving me. I'm Izuku Midoriya, but you can call me Deku if you want." I bowed slightly, feeling a mix of embarrassment and gratitude.
"No problem, Deku. Now come on; we will be late for school." He gave me a reassuring pat on the back, and we started walking together.
The path to school was lined with trees, their leaves rustling in the gentle breeze. It was quiet between us for a moment, but he didn't seem to mind. I took the opportunity to examine him as he walked ahead of me. He didn't have a backpack, and his shoes weren't properly tied, but what struck me most were his magnificent white wings. They were large and majestic, reminiscent of Hawks, and I felt a surge of awe at their size.
