The Next Day - Y/N
Yesterday's events were still fresh in your mind. Hawks' words echoed endlessly, but no matter how much you replayed them, they refused to make sense.
You'd stayed up all night trying to untangle his cryptic warnings, leaving you confused and sleep-deprived as you faced the second day of your mission.
'Who told this crazy bird to mess with my head like that?!' you thought angrily, frustration boiling over.
Hawks had succeeded in planting seeds of doubt where none had existed before. For the first time, you questioned your trust in the Commission—a thought you found unsettling.
After all, you'd made a deal. After you complete this mission, the Hero Public Safety Commission will help you hunt Phoenix down, finally making him pay for what he did.
That was the plan. That was the goal. So why let Hawks' ridiculous talk get in the way?
'Why am I letting him get to me?' you thought, tightening your grip on the bag slung over your shoulder. 'This deal with the president is my only way to get revenge.'
You shook your head, trying to clear the fog of doubt. You couldn't afford to lose focus, not now. You had to stay strong. Hawks wasn't going to ruin this for you.
As you walked through the bustling city, your mind was still racing. The sun was bright, the noise of the streets filled the air, but it all felt muted compared to the internal battle raging within you.
You trusted the Commission to guide you, to give you the tools to take down Phoenix. Hawks' warnings, however, painted a different picture—a shadow of doubt creeping into the corners of your mind.
But what if he was wrong? What if he was only trying to throw you off? You didn't know Hawks well enough to trust him, and yet, his words lingered like a persistent thorn.
You stopped in front of a coffee shop, realizing you were too exhausted to keep moving without a break. You stepped inside and ordered something strong to wake yourself up. As you waited, you found yourself staring at your reflection in the glass window.
'What am I doing?' You barely recognized the conflicted person staring back at you.
You got your coffee and left the place. Your path had always been clear, but now... it felt like Hawks had thrown you into an unfamiliar maze. Just then your watch started beeping. Groaning in annoyance, you answered the incoming call.
"Yes, ma'am?" you said, keeping your voice steady.
"Cratos, I've read your first-day report. Good job finding out that the Ojiro child is a close friend of our target. We should use him as a connection. It would be beneficial to get close to him, gain his trust, and then use him to our advantage," the President's voice was cool and direct.
"Yes, ma'am. I'll make sure of that," you replied, hiding the unease creeping into your thoughts.
"Very well. I expect another report later today. If there is nothing else to discuss, I will end the call now."
"Wait, there's something I want to discuss with you," you blurted out before she could hang up.
"And what would that be?" she asked, her tone sharp and expectant.
"I..." The words faltered on your tongue. Yesterday's events flashed through your mind—Hawks' warnings, his unsettling insinuations.
The Commission cannot be trusted.
"I... I left my jacket at the building the last time I was there. Do you know anything about it?" You quickly changed your question, unsure if revealing what Hawks told you was the right move.
