Yesterday – Y/N's POV
"Our target has feelings for that boy with the tail. We're still unsure of the extent, but thanks to your efforts, we know they exist. Her weakness is exactly what we'll exploit to bring her down, along with her criminal father." The President's voice was calm, every word deliberate.
"You're doing excellent work, Cratos—just as expected from H/T's top hero. Your task is to stay close to her and gain insight into her private life. Can you manage that?" Her question felt like a test, despite the praise.
"Yes, Madam President," you replied smoothly.
"Good. I look forward to your next report." The line went dead.
Present Time
"So, why don't you tell me what's bothering you?" you ask softly, leaning closer, your voice a carefully crafted blend of concern and warmth.
You need Toru Hagakure to open up, to trust you. Every word, every glance, has to feel genuine. There's a pause. She's weighing whether she can confide in you—whether she should.
"Something strange happened earlier today at school," she finally murmurs, barely audible.
You nod, your expression neutral, giving her space to speak. Push too hard, and she'll shut down. Stay patient, and she'll give you exactly what you need.
"Mashirao... he pulled me aside after lunch. Took me to the rooftop." She hesitates, her voice catching slightly. "Then... he started shouting at me."
The hurt in her voice is unmistakable. You pretend to be surprised, though you're the one who orchestrated that confrontation. Sowing the seeds of doubt between them had been easy. A few subtle comments, a quiet nudge, and Ojiro's insecurities had flared, pushing him to lash out.
"He shouted at you?" You echo the words, letting disbelief and concern seep into your tone. "That doesn't sound like him at all."
"I know." Her reply is filled with confusion and hurt. "The Mashirao I know would never act like that. Especially not towards me."
She falls silent, but you can feel her emotions, raw and unsteady. She's more shaken than she wants to admit, and that's exactly what you've been counting on.
You wait a moment, letting the silence stretch, letting her uncertainty fester. Then you speak again, voice soft, almost hesitant.
"What did he say? Why did he shout at you?"
The tension between you builds, and for a moment, you wonder if she's starting to question your intentions.
Has she caught on?
"I... I can't tell you. It's personal."
Your jaw tightens for a fraction of a second, but you keep your expression calm, hiding the frustration brewing beneath the surface. She's close to breaking, but not close enough.
"I understand," you say, your tone gentle, as if you're the concerned friend she believes you to be. "I didn't mean to push."
She stays silent, her guard still up. She doesn't trust you fully yet, but the cracks are there. You just need to widen them.
"Do you want to head back to school?" you offer, standing slowly, giving her the chance to escape from this conversation if she wants.
But before you can take a step, you feel a soft tug on your sleeve.
"I don't want to leave yet," she whispers, her voice small and fragile. You sit back down, keeping your movements slow and careful.
"Alright," you say softly, settling back beside her. "We can stay as long as you need."
