Chapter name : Walking on a thin rope
Ahiya's hands trembled as she clutched her phone. "We have your siblings," the voice on the other end sneered. It was Mr. Liam, his tone dripping with malice. "You want them to live? You kill Arthur. One clean stab to the heart, and I'll let them go."
Tears blurred her vision. Her mind raced, panic consuming every inch of her body. Arthur... the man who had saved her, protected her, and unknowingly stolen her heart. How could she ever hurt him?
But her siblings... Sean and Fia. Their faces flashed in her mind—innocent, scared. She had no choice. If she didn't do this, Liam would kill them, and that was something she could never live with. Her heart felt like it was being torn apart, but survival had forced her hand.
Ahiya agreed.
Arthur was standing by the window of his hotel room when Ahiya arrived. His back was turned, the city lights casting a faint glow on his silhouette. He didn't see the fear in her eyes, the way she hesitated at the door.
She had the knife tucked into her coat, hidden but close enough to feel the weight of it, a constant reminder of what she had to do. Each step toward him felt like a thousand-pound weight, dragging her closer to her own doom.
"You're late," Arthur said without turning around, his voice deep and calm. "I was starting to think you didn't want to see me anymore." There was a softness in his words, a warmth that made Ahiya's heart ache even more. He trusted her. And she was about to betray him.
Her voice caught in her throat, but she forced herself to speak. "I'm here now," she said, trying to mask the tremor in her voice.
He turned to face her, his eyes searching hers, sensing something was wrong. "What's going on?" he asked, taking a step toward her. "You're shaking."
Her breath hitched, the fear of what she was about to do overwhelming her. She clenched the knife tighter beneath her coat, her mind screaming at her to stop. But the image of her siblings in danger was too powerful to ignore.
Before she could think, her hand moved. The knife came out, gleaming under the dim light, and with a desperate cry, she plunged it toward Arthur's chest.
"I'm so sorry!" she screamed, tears pouring down her face as she drove the blade into him.
Arthur's eyes widened in shock, not from the pain, but from seeing her—the woman he cared about—holding the knife that had just pierced his skin. He stumbled back, his hand instinctively clutching the wound, blood seeping through his fingers.
Ahiya dropped the knife, horrified by what she had done. "I didn't want to! I didn't have a choice!" she sobbed, collapsing beside him. "Please, Arthur, I'm so sorry! They have my siblings... Liam said he'd kill them if I didn't..."
